Happy Revolver day! Here’s that source photos image that ended up all over the web uncredited. It was researched by Beatles fan (and great help for my Sgt Pepper source photos project) Sergey Obod. Yay, Sergey!
One of the first bits of ‘online scholarship’ I engaged with was Ray’s book.
Everyone is talking about Revolver! I love Revolver! The first substantial thing I ever wrote was a short eBook about the album back in 2006. More on that here, including a link to a PDF of the book itself. precastreinforced.co.uk/2026/04/26/3...
Released 60 years ago today, The Beatles launch Revolver in Los Angeles.
My ‘Macca Goes Weird’ playlist will span the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s. It’s an eclectic mix. Hopefully the deep cuts will be unfamiliar to some. It was hard to choose only an hour’s worth of material, as you can imagine. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...

And here's how it looked in that day's edition of the Liverpool Echo (Saturday, 3rd August 1963) - in the classified section of the paper in the column for 'JAZZ'
63 years ago today, on 3rd August 1963, The Beatles played their last ever performance at The Cavern Club in Liverpool. This marked the end of an almost 300 performance run at the venue they were initially discovered.

Backrooms, the word is on the tombs that the distance in your rooms is large. You're sure you've seen it all before, like an episode of Mornin' Sarge. I don't believe that anybody feels the way you do about liminal space psychological horror now.
Of course, if you'd like a podcast chaser to go with this big delicious drink, then it would be our Series 4, Episode 51 that deals roughly with the contemporary number ones for this! (Original release 24 March 2025) plinkhq.com/i/1531129636...

This week on the show we're talking about How I Won The War from 1967. Apparently John Lennon and Michael Crawford became great mates during filming and Crawford even claimed some credit for the composition of Strawberry Fields Forever…🤔
Oh, and another reminder (as I mentioned it in the show) of the Beatles, Heritage and Culture MA that will be running primarily as on online delivery course from September 2026 at the University of Liverpool. I've spoken to @drhollytessler.bsky.social about the content. It's going to be fantastic!

Given how often we mention how hot we are, our new episode probably won't offer much relief from the heat, but it might just distract you for a little while. Surf's up! Don't be a hodad - start shooting the curl!

Sad to note that Running Scared co-writer Joe Melson has died at the venerable age of 91. Also responsible for co-writing with Roy Orbison such classics as Only the Lonely, Crying, and Blue Bayou.
I genuinely have no idea if I make any sense in this episode. I was having 'a day' and it was very, very warm.

Back tomorrow to continue our 1963 exploration in what can only be described as a “heat-addled” episode.
Well, I am in hog’s heaven with this collection. Wow.
You'll have heard last series, our UK number ones exploration, how much of an (ahem) shadow this group cast across the charts in the early days. I reckon this is probably one that's going to go on my birthday books list! (P)
@rockingbob.bsky.social has done it again. This is a great book.
