More @roost.tools docs site updates! We’re now serving project docs from the shiny new docs.roost.tools domain. Idk what to do with the bare domain yet, so it currently redirects to roost.tools, but projects get a nice URL like: docs.roost.tools/coop/latest More to come soon. 👀

We’re still refining our processes, but I think we went too long between releases! 😅 For a relatively minor update, there’s so much good stuff coming in Coop 1.1.0. And a ton from adopters using Coop in production, or first-time contributors. It’s exciting to see this community grow and develop. 😊

The community of ROOST contributors has been busy over the past several weeks working on the upcoming 1.1.0 release of Coop. We have a pre-release available for testing, and would love your feedback if you’re currently deploying Coop or are interested in trying it out.

Most tooling for fighting fraud and abuse was built for 2010s social media. The abuse evolved. The tools mostly didn't. @julietshen.online at Marketplace Risk NYC on why open source and open weight models help: you run them yourself, so sensitive data never leaves your systems. github.com/roostorg

Two of my repeated (but favorite!) conversations at TrustCon were about how other trust and safety organizations can open source some of their work, and how to _actually_ consume open source software. You hit the download button and then..? Now written up, and with slightly better artisanal visuals

ROOST COO Anne Bertucio de Hollembeak spent over a decade building and leading open source projects. She breaks down the different reasons teams open source safety tools, and why treating them all the same is often why a promising project quietly stalls out. roost.tools/blog/releasi...

Open source is new territory for trust and safety! more safety tools are being released free or open source than ever, but this is a new practice. what does it actually mean to release something as open source, and what does it take to run open source tools like Coop or Osprey for a team?

We're hosting Mistral today in office hours today. They'll chat with us about their work building Shieldstral - decisions to build a small, reasoning-less model, the underlying taxonomy it relies on, what its ideal use-cases are, where they want more testing/feedback done.

Much like the work that goes into the protocols and software behind the web, most people don’t know about trust and safety—including the harms that exist and the tools to combat them. We attended FOSSY to chat with, learn from, and help educate fellow open source developers. #FOSSY #FediCon
