Assistant Professor of Political Science (Public Law, Public Opinion, Criminal Justice, and Experiments) writing lately on privacy and surveillance. But please talk to me about surfing, dogs, trash pandas, and the outdoors. Statements are my own.

Any time Rutgers is in the news, it's bad but this takes the cake! The surveillance state must be destroyed.

Surveilling students AND workers. Things like this are why we at @ruaaup-aft.bsky.social put across an article in April to address surveillance, the lack of oversight or thoughtful governance in tech decision making at Rutgers. Mgmt has not responded in nearly 6mo... www.nj.com/news/2026/10...

"Why are you criticizing the democrats, when the republicans did this??" Here's the thing: there's no need to call out the ominous evil hole in the ground. It's an ominous evil hole in the ground. You need to call out the guy guiding travelers into the hole instead of putting a fence around it

Part (but far from all) of what's horrific here is: a woman weighing the consequences of speaking up about being sexually assaulted, because speaking up imposes burdens and costs (and so does not speaking up).

Embarrassed, she initially didn’t want to report attack. Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office's investigation is ongoing. A Phoenix New Times exclusive.

Got to see the back end of the Flock system, including how "affiliated cameras" are integrated into the network and visible to police. Calling them ALPR's is so misleading, these systems are akin to Minority Report surveillance. They are so much more than passive recording of vehicles passing them.

The proliferation of police body cam [TikTok/YouTube/etc], the Qannon BS/pop culture trope that industrial scale child trafficking is basically happening everywhere all of the time, and every fucking cop show saying "based on real events" has absolutely cooked students' brains.

Given we keep coming back to lawns in my environmental law course this semester, I'm adding a section for next time about lawn laws. Calling this part of the syllabus: "Why you should take your lawn out back and shoot it, put it in your car, and bury it under Giants stadium, but you legally can't"

Ban the fucking polymarkets. Betting on death. Betting on war while Incentivizing death and war. Shaping foreign/domestic policy by rewarding the rich people already in the know and encouraging them to make decisions that destroy the world while padding their pockets. Burn it down.
