I saw police detain a man and search his backpack. After, when I asked the police what happened, I was told the man had been “arrestable” and therefore could be searched. That’s not a thing. Here’s a refresher on what police can and can’t do. Procedure is important. thetyee.ca/News/2026/06...

This is one of those issues that Vancouverites without kids in school don't really see or care much about, but it's a MASSIVE challenge to families, and it impacts people's ability to work, and ultimately to even live here, which really and truly affects everyone in the city.

This week, VSB Chair Victoria Jung moved a motion to LIMIT universal childcare for families accessing childcare on school grounds! Total non sense that I do not support. I believe in universality, b/c a public good that is good for some kids & families should be accessible to all kids & families👇🏾

Build more. We need to be acting on what our city should be 10, 20, 30 years from now. And we need to be innovative. Look at @reddyforchange.bsky.social's efforts to provide after school care in existing space, using existing staff (who often are on part-time contracts and want more hours).

Earlier this week the VSB held a meeting to hear from community members about the permanent closure of Carleton Elementary (6-acres of school land at Joyce/Kingsway). The school has been closed for 9 years… Parents, grandparents, community members, and graduates asked: 👇🏾

Vancouver councillor Rebecca Bligh makes official she will run for mayor next year under a new banner of “Vote Vancouver”. Bligh was first elected in 2018 with the NPA, left them, joined Sim’s ABC Party and was re-elected, before she was booted from ABC, mostly on divisions over social issues.

Bligh has a decent amount of support from the province and feds (more than Sim or Allam at this point), which could help. But her 6 years being a supporter of Ken Sim, and getting elected under both the NPA and ABC banners, means it’ll be difficult to get support from local left-wing parties.
