What’s it really like working in the humanitarian aid sector? In this month’s newsletter, we speak to Madi Williamson, executive director at Insight Collaborative - an organisation that trains humanitarian leaders around the world.

Notable NorCal fire: 50+ acre #WoodsideFire is burning in heavy timber between Hwy 1 & Pacific Ocean & has forced some evacuations in western Sonoma County. It is wind driven (25 gust 35mph) in moderately dry heavy fuels despite mild temps/moderate humidity. Smoke widely visible.

A recent warehouse fire in West Virginia left nearby communities dealing with toxic smoke and hazardous residue even after the fire was put out. Thanks to supplies we had pre-positioned in Atlanta, a volunteer was able to drive masks and gloves up to support the clean-up response.

We’re looking for Data Scientists to help merge historical & realtime data in service of predictive modeling for aid needs and enable decision support for our ops and admin teams to improve “just in time” aid distribution. Build our data pipeline & infrastructure to connect and correlate data from across our toolchain. This will enable other tools to utilize each other’s data, as well as allow us to provide personalized donor impact reports (think “Spotify wrapped” for your humanitarian contributions). Did you catch our newsletter this week? In it, we reflect on the word “Courage” which has been the leading theme of this year’s World Refugee Week. Should it require so much courage to reach safety? What about the courage required from us to stand up for what we believe?
