🚨 BREAKING: The Minnesota DNR just canceled one of Twin Metals' state mineral leases. This is a HUGE win, and it happened because of YOU! Tens of thousands of you made calls and flooded the DNR's and the governor's inboxes, demanding action. Thank you for showing up for the Boundary Waters. 💚

Last night our neighboring city Albany voted to drop Flock, following El Cerrito’s vote in May. There will now be a continuous Flock free area and I’m hopeful our two small towns are starting a wave that will spread through the East Bay and beyond. Thanks to all the advocates who made this happen!

worth tying this into the political economy of the slave south as well. from roughly the 1820s onwards, slavery became enormously lucrative in ways that had never been seen before. slave traders became millionaires. large planters had tremendous purchasing power. just huge amounts of wealth.

Antebellum politics is fascinating, the South kept getting policy concessions and whipped themselves up into a paranoid rage anyway, essentially because they couldn't stand being culturally judged for having slaves

Happy Labor Day! Today's the day to contact @organizeworkers.bsky.social and find out how to organize to improve your job. Forming a union at my own job was one of the most transformative things I've ever done. If you want to know what words like "solidarity" really mean, unionize your workplace.

New reason to cancel the Cubic Clipper contract: BayPass is completely inoperable (at least for Berkeley students) right at the start of the semester. Spoke to a BART station agent who said he’s seen 100+ students get an “insufficient value” on their card *this week* 😐

With 80% in, Markey is winning by 30 points. Markey took on the enemy hardpoint and defended trans athletes, saying "I believe you can be right, but too soon.” Regardless of what issue polling shows, it's not an issue that decides races; and the affirmative *defence* of trans people was a winner.

2 weeks ago: hit by car Yesterday: hit by e-scooter rider swerving into protected bike lane Today: saddle stolen in broad daylight on my college campus Biking is a huge part of my life but right now I never want to ride again. Nobody’s ditching the cars as long as this is the reality

While the article misses the biggest thing SF could do to control traffic -- congestion pricing -- it's a great reminder what is at stake this November: the collapse of our transit agencies, leading to more cars and parking. We have to pass Measure RTM and Prop H!

S.F. is one of America’s most walkable cities. So why is its traffic so bad?

San Francisco is consistently ranked one of the most walkable and transit-friendly cities in the United States. Its congestion is also among the worst.
