Despite a busy spring I still had a few events I wanted to squeeze into my packed calendar. I may not be a social butterfly, but there is a certain fun getting in front of crowd and chat about topics near and dear to my heart. But it's more than that. For the solitary writer doing events reminds you, you are not alone. That there are people out there eager and interested in your stories and their also authors going through the same thing as you. While you can see this online,  meeting people in person adds a whole new level to it.

Because history is interconnected, I have read quite a few history books to get the full picture of a particular slice of time. The following are just a few books that crossed my path over the years taking me into some interested rabbit holes. Oh gosh. Don't even get me started on how these measures wouldn't improve anything while the additional funding would increase harm.

I think voting is incredibly important. This is why me and my friends have raised $1 million for voting rights. I think if the ONLY THING you are talking about right now is people voting, you have lost the plot.

I’m seeing posts from people (outside of MN) about how US citizens should carry their passports. And let me say that *inside* MN, we are calmly responding to requests with: “No, I don’t have to show you any documentation.” Because that’s how you protect everyone, regardless of immigration status.

I do not personally believe that everyone has to comment on everything, but (as an Iranian) when I see Americans claim to "stand for Iran" while never saying a word about American taxes destroying Palestine, or ICE enslaving immigrants and gunning down bystanders, I get real suspicious real fast.

Keep calling these chumps and tell them ICE OUT OF OUR CITIES is the BARE MINIMUM. Get them OUT right now, and ultimately DEFUND AND ABOLISH. Also, NO to failed "reforms" like training and bodycams that change nothing and just give ICE more money to hurt people. Find your reps here: reps.fyi

Balancing Deadlines and Book Tours, as the World Wobbles

As I write this I'm in the middle of a deadline where the only good thing about it is that I'm still on track. I won't claim I'm the most organized person, but I gave myself some mini-deadlines that act as good checks, making sure the book doesn't run away from me. I needed them especially as I wanted to have some holiday fun with my family and not have to slink away to write the entire time. Oh and there's just this small thing of my next book coming!

This is such a small thing in the face of everything else going on... but the 57th NAACP Image Awards nominations were announced today and they left off the illustrators of four out of the five graphic novel nominees. I remain dissatisfied with how comic artists are treated.
