I'm an internet rando lurking in the Portland, Oregon cityscape. Previously Alabama and Arkansas. Technical writer. Often seen cackling about something with @noahbrand.bsky.social. Also, the cats want food. I should feed them.

so like lemme weigh in on this as someone who is more financially comfortable than many in my generational cohort: everything I have gained seems precarious and temporary because I know the people with real money will take it all from me the second they get an opportunity and no one will protect me.

"People have stopped believing that the economy can be good, and have lost the willingness to admit that they are doing well. That pessimism might be harder to fix than an actual downturn," @annielowrey.bsky.social argues.

It’s absolutely incredible that one of the largest Japanese-run Go servers, which has been running since 1992, is still accessed entirely via Telnet. And while most players use GUI clients that use Telnet under the hood, you can still connect manually and get ASCII graphics streamed to you

I'm going to offer one boring observation about "the economy is going great and nobody can afford anything": in the last decade, every company worked out that on a long enough timeline, subscriptions will take more of your money than outright purchases.

@domesticat.bsky.social and I have spent the last several days making and freezing several batches of homemade chicken stock, so vaporized chicken has been filling the air. This little dude has been GRAVELY concerned that the air is made of meat. Perhaps he fears succumbing to Chicken Lung.

A tuxedo cat with long white whiskers, looking concerned.

Concorde's first commercial flight was in 1976 and it was retired in 2003, or 27 years. Flight of the Conchords have been going since 1998 and are now in their 28th year. Flight of the Conchords has now lasted longer than the flights of the Concorde.

Shit got a little spicy down at the ICE building today. Street medics helped a lot of people, especially the children who were teargassed without warning. I'm just a dork with a helmet and shield, but I was able to help a little as well. #FuckICE
