To say that I was nervous about this weekend would be a bit of an understatement, but Bristolcon was brilliant, and made me feel like I've not been wasting the last decade of my life with this writing nonsense. It may have given me enough hope to tackle the next one, too. #bristolcon

The lessons from Brazil and Serbia? Don't concede one inch of ground to the far right. Don't appease. Don't triangulate. Don't grovel. Don't say they have "legitimate concerns". Mobilise your base, and fight them with all the democratic means at your disposal.

I once left a really good job as a newspaper editor to go to a new job at a magazine, when I turned up everyone was shooting daggers at me, turned out they’d not been paid for a month and were livid that they were hiring people. By the end of the second day customs and excise shuttered the business.

Canada is refusing to issue ISBNs to books primarily generated with AI. This illustrates both the urgency of the problem of the growing flood of slop books, and also the toothlessness of addressing it on the honor system without there also being consequences for lying

You may use AI tools only for limited support tasks, such as brainstorming ideas, checking grammar, or formatting your book. You must not use AI to generate the text, create the artwork, or translate the book. ISBN Canada does not issue ISBNs for works whose content is primarily generated by AI. LAC is currently reviewing its policy regarding the use of AI content creation and our guidance is subject to change.

I think this will be one of the defining images of the Premier League's void years: a proudly working class fanbase celebrating that the ruling family of an oppressive regime had hired a barrister on £10,000-an-hour to try and prevent them suffering consequences for their cheating. Embarrassing.
