Car brains will look at this image & tell you that the problem is those 2 hire bikes on the pavement. What do you mean you can’t see them? Next to the HGV that’s parked on the pavement. No! Not that HGV on the pavement. The other HGV that’s on the pavement. Yes!! Those hire bikes are the problem.

All about active travel, reducing road danger and eliminating car-centrism and dependency 🚲🚶🚇 (Yes, I do drive)
When compared to Wonford ward (where the route is), only 23% of the population supported this via the consulation. Looking as St. Leonards, Heavitree, Middlemoor and Wonford wards (pop. 40k), only 5.3% responded with support. Shockingly poor decision that prioritises short local car-trips.
Most drivers place their own convenience above the wellbeing and lives of other road users.

Thought I was going to be squashed today by yet another driver not looking or slowing down at the junction of Titchbourne Row and Oxford Square in Bayswater today. This junction seems rife for rat-running drivers not giving way – had many similar close calls @westminster-lcc.bsky.social
This is the best cycling advert ever, especially because I’m in it. It beautifully shows that cycling is for everyone, no matter who you are or where you come from. Bikes bring people together and remind us that cycling is one of the best ways to improve our health and wellbeing.
So sad that these desperately needed schemes will probably be binned off now Westminster Council is controlled by the Tories ☹️
The previous administration were set to make a number of temporary cycle lanes permanent by, you guessed it, repainting the white lines. We've asked officers come up with new plans which add as much segregation as possible. 2/6
We initially designed the protected cycle infrastructure to include the RBKC side of Bayswater Road. Not surprising but nonetheless a depressing reply came back: "Stepped tracks and bus stop by-passes are just not something that is supported in RBKC currently." 1/
We are in a genitocracy. Tax cuts and free healthcare and welfare (in the form of pensions) for old people. No incentives for young people. We can’t afford homes which are horded by the old. We are mercilessly taxed to pay for their lives. This is just another stealth tax on the young.
The strategic road network is managed by a charity and relies on the goodwill of land owners for access. Some motorways will be muddy and flooded each winter. Also The strategic road network stops randomly at council boundaries and investment is where councils are willing. (UK edition).
If car infrastructure was designed like bike infrastructure: — motorists would have to end trip because “lane ends” — they would have to give priority to airplanes — they would have to drive longer because curvy road is more esthetic — every time they drove, someone would say “you drove here”??

In the past month 3 transport routes have collapsed - but they aren't roads so don't make national news. All 3 have the same root causes, climate change, and Tory austerity passing responsibility for critical infrastructure on to charities and councils. This will happen more, and people will be hurt
One of the biggest tricks of the car industry was convincing us that parking private cars is a public responsibility, turning shared space into free storage for personal vehicles.
Over the 7 days Thurs 11 - Weds 17 Dec'25, the cycleway #C3 #CS3 counter recorded 56,636 cycle journeys (higher than the last full week of November!) Very wet Thursday 18th's AM scores courtesy of @westcountrytim.bsky.social 👇 bsky.app/profile/west...
Cycle-counter CS3Count on the Embankment cycle lane in London at 1,292 cycle journeys for the day at 08:29 this morning (791,828 since being reset). @cs3cs6count.bsky.social
If your cost-benefit model tells you it isn't worth investing in a tram or light rail system for an urban area with a population of well over 1m, like Leeds-Bradford, your model is wrong and should be thrown in the bin.
Congestion costs £7.5bn a year and c.£17bn is needed to fix the worn out road network. In the last 30 years, the UK population has grown by 19%, but the number of cars has exploded by 56%. Outside of London, 81% of British households own at least one car! theconversation.com/how-the-uks-...

...Research undertaken here in the UK found that 'paint-only' cycle lanes are actually worse (less safe) than nothing, and that to be better than nothing, a cycle lane needs wands or a kerb/curb. road.cc/content/news...
Painted advisory cycle lanes increase risk of cyclist casualties, study finds
Research into London commutes also reveals stepped cycle tracks are more effective than kerb protected lanes in reducing injury odds

Proud to see London is fast becoming a cycling city ⤵️ 📈 Daily journeys are 12% up from last year to 1,500,000 trips 📈 Up by more than 40% since 2019 This is just the start, we’ll continue working with partners to improve safety and invest in more routes.
Great example of motornormativity on Cycleway 4 in Deptford – one of London's key cycle routes. Non-existent motor traffic gets a default green while cyclists (& probs pedestrians) have to wait ~1 min for the lights to change. We can do better! @willnorman.co.uk @ianwalker.bsky.social
Feel free to use this video as a counter argument for "cyclists always jump red lights"! One of the most egregious examples I've ever witnessed. Slightly too dark for the camera to pick up the reg though.
Southwark Council is consulting on the Lower Road cycleway scheme – part of Cycleway 4 and a vital safe cycling route for us in Greenwich. engage.southwark.gov.uk/en-GB/projec... Survey closes 14 December.
Maybe it’s time for Putney’s politicians to grow up, find some political courage and own some more reality-based traffic reduction solutions for their blighted town centre - even if car drivists do wail and gnash their teeth about them?
Putney MP Fleur Anderson INSISTS that their traffic problems cannot be solved without reopening Hammersmith Bridge to cars. But this FOI request to TfL for comms b/w them & Wandsworth Council abt these problems discloses 138 pages of docs, in which there is not 1 single mention of Hammersmith Bridge
3 drivers complain = the entire community is against it 20 cyclists express support = the bike mafia has hijacked the meeting
City: We unanimously declare a climate emergency! We must make change no matter what the cost, humanity's survival depends on it! Community: Can we put in a protected bike lane to get more people cycling. City: No, we'll lose parking spots.
Love how much energy we all spend circle jerking over classes of ebikes while car culture runs around with metrics of multiple tons, hundreds of horsepower, and top speeds only limited in triple digits.
Was going through old footage and noticed just how much TfL have narrowed the cycle lane (~30cm) on Clapham High Street after the summer resurfacing works. They also removed the wands segregating the cycle lane. Why??? @londoncycling.bsky.social @lambethcyclists.bsky.social @psimonk.bsky.social
CS7. A "high-quality cycle route" according to TfL. Is this what a "high-quality cycle route" that should be suitable for all ages and abilities should look like?
Cycling won't work here; we're not the Netherlands! Cycling won't work here - we're not Denmark! Cycling won't work here - we're not Finland! Cycling won't work here - we're not Paris! Cycling won't work here - we're not Glasgow! Cycling won't work here - we're not London! Or maybe....
