54% - That's the percentage of translators (out of 235 respondents) who only receive minimal or no reference material whatsoever for the games they're working on. Remember that figure next time you read a translation that sounds off in context!

Fatal Frame II Remake is localized into 8 languages, yet none of the translators are credited. This continues a long series of non-crediting by Koei Tecmo.

Fatal Frame 2 Remake, developed by @koeitecmo.bsky.social does NOT feature any #TranslatorsInTheCredits. Mind you, it doesn't even credit any loc studios. It seems it was magically localized. No translators or PMs worked on it for weeks. Absolutely no one. #MagicalLocalization #FatalFrame2Remake

The Dungeon Experience demo is out— @punnymercenary.bsky.social and I only worked on the French loc but we can vouch for the quality of the scented candles! Why not buy a few 💜 come on do it 🫶 you know you want to 🥰 do it Thanks @michelpimpant.bsky.social for the trust & the delightful crab jokes

Alors comme ça, on est enclin à la rigolade ? Je vous conseille "The Dungeon Experience" qui sort une démo localisée en français par le duo @luciet.bsky.social et @punnymercenary.bsky.social. L'Indépendance financière n'a pas de prix (c'est une démo). store.steampowered.com/app/994680/T...

When someone aks what we think about the use of AI, the first question that comes to mind is always: But why? Why would we, or anyone really, want to use it? Here's @mittovac.bsky.social's piece about this very topic. Please share to anyone who needs to read this ⬇️ fromthevoid.net/blog/ai-in-g...

Since 2023, translators and interpreters have seen work dry up, rates plummet and their jobs reduced to editing AI-generated output. Some are leaving the field, others are considering bankruptcy. All despite any major upgrade in translation quality. This is how AI is killing translation work:

AI Killed My Job: Translators

Few industries have been hit by AI as hard as translation. Rates are plummeting. Work is drying up. Translators are considering abandoning the field, or bankruptcy. These are their stories.

I'm preparing to publish the next installment of AI Killed My Job. This time, the focus will be on translators. If you or someone you know has had a translation job (including translator, interpreter, game localizer, etc) impacted by AI, and you'd like to share, please do: AIkilledmyjob@pm.me

AI is being used to justify firing workers at major tech companies, leaving those that remain to pick up the pieces. AI code is being shoveled into crucial Google products, replacing trainers at TikTok, and worse. This, in tech workers' own words, is how AI is killing jobs in Silicon Valley.

And just like that, my return to work after my recovery was not joyful. This game dev and producer is now looking for a job: - looking for fully remote EU/EMEA positions. - Led teams in publishing, production and esports. Done non-gaming. - Successfully shipped over 60 indie, AA and AAA games.

There's a once-great localization agency currently struggling to assemble a loc team for a huge high-profile project offering rates to the tune of €0.056 translation, €0.026 review and €25 hourly for FRENCH. If they contact you, DO NOT TAKE IT. They CANNOT get away with it.

One of my pet peeves when playing games is bad subtitles. Tiny text, illegible fonts, no speaker names, poor line breaking, the list goes on! Movies and TV have standardized style guides, so why don't games?! Anyway, so I decided to rant about it. j-entranslations.com/why-do-video...
