The fact that the Democrats have some many candidates that are clergy (from various faiths) is testament to how the completely amoral politics of Trumpism has spurred the religious left into greater engagement. Values are good! We should have them. Persecuting corruption requires moral authority

Note: Cook Political Report has now shifted 18 more House races in Democrats’ direction. Among them: IA-03 (now likely Dem) and IA-02 (now a toss-up), both of which feature clergy (an ELCA pastor and a PCUSA pastor, respectively) as the Democratic nominee. www.cookpolitical.com/analysis/hou...

Democracy is good for business because political liberty goes hand and hand with economic liberty. Authoritarianism, no matter how business friendly it tries to market itself as, always has a pay to play dynamic. Authoritarians hate free markets because they reward ability rather than loyalty

Trump admin is suspending a bunch of tech companies (Microsoft, Adobe, Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, HCL, Capgemini) from participation in the H-1B PERM program, alleging fraud. Some other tech firms (Apple, Amazon, Google, etc.) notably absent from the list.

As a broader point, the Administration is war with data collection. The goal is simple: you can't prove racial discrimination in court if the government doesn't collect data by race. You can't show climate change if the government dismantles climate monitoring. This is Authoritarianism 101.

We've probably learned more about American politics from the ANES than any other single data source. The same is true for the GSS and sociology. Both of these are gone if Congress acquiesces to these NSF cuts.

Important thing wrt political science and the NSF, it isn't just about 'woke' in the usual race/gender theory sense. Republicans have been angered by hardnosed quant findings that have been inconvenient to the GOP on things like gerrymandering, campaign finance, voter ID, political violence, etc

25 years ago there was a show called Crank Yankers on Comedy Central that had muppets act out prank calls. One of the prank calls was by a guy running for "district selectmen" speaking to a prospective constituent who had problems with her son and he promised, if elected, he'd send in the SWAT team.

Gov. nominee Byron Donalds promises a Florida Republican voter "his word" that he will work on a 'grandparents' rights' law so her daughter stops estranging her

The function of modern media is laundering and reformatting this insane man's statements for the public so they don't have to confront reality. The fact that *this person* holds the world's most powerful office and we allow it to continue raises so many hard questions we just choose to ignore it

notable -- Fox News hasn't mentioned Trump's transphobic attack on Annie Andrews a single time. Not once. And they cover a lot of his Truth Social posts. Almost like they're trying to protect their audience from learning the true depth of his depravity.

the brazil thing is so depressing because they did the right thing, man they did what we couldn’t, they actually prosecuted their coup and threw bolsonaro’s ass in jail and generally showed the united states what a functional state looks like and now they are gonna elect his dipshit son? really?

Assuming a uniform national shift from 2022, here is my estimate of what gains Democrats could make in state legislatures. Right now they take AZ, WI, MN, MI. PA Senate likely. Some others in striking distance. Vibe coding caveats apply.

The entire last decade has been an exercise in creating a different set of standards for One Special Boy. Trump can never fail, people can only disagree about his performance. It isn't that he doesn't understand anything, he has unorthodox economic stances. It's delusions framed as evenhandedness.

When job growth was 5-10x this per month under Joe Biden, we were having a nonstop National Conversation™️ about the imminent recession & being told that only the unemployed cared about jobs, but everyone cared about inflation.
