feels worth noting that the blowout Dem gov primary in Michigan got about 60% more voter participation - 1.49 million votes - than the more competitive GOP gov primary - 930k votes. obviously contested D vs uncontested R Senate primaries affect this, but still. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Takes like this are very tempting but IMO go too far. The polling miss last night was historically exactly average for a primary — no evidence polls have gotten worse recently. And remember 2022 had the most accurate House and Senate polls in history! bsky.app/profile/gell...

There’s no actual alternative to polling but I just don’t believe they capture public sentiment in any reliable way anymore

In addition to having no experience in immigration, their website shows Ilya Shapiro (!) and disgraced former law prof Joshua Wright (!) as Senior Counsel. I don't think this massive contract was awarded to give immigrant children effective, zealous advocacy. burkegroup.law/our-team/

26-employee Texas law firm gets $150M to represent 24,000 children in immigration court

Looks like a 10-15 point polling miss in Michigan regardless of who wins. And people have been writing a lot of electability takes using this data. It’s dangerous out there folks be safe

Elon is talking about using robots to build a mass accelerator on the moon in support of an economy 1000x to 1 million times the current earth economy. It's a bad sci fi novel not an earnings call.

Absolutely unbelievable how solar power has taken off worldwide during the Hormuz oil crisis. You don't have to hand it to him, but Trump may have done more to finally kick off a global civilization of effete librul solar users than anyone else in the West

Chart showing solar panel exports from China (the main solar panel maker by a long shot) growing steadily & mightily from 2018 through 2026, then spiking by almost 2x in March 2026.

As it looks like Brenton Doyle is about to be traded, let me regale you with my favorite Savant page ever...Mr. Doyle in 2023. It's epic. It's glorious. It's beautiful. It's so weird. It's a HoF Savant page. Find me something better, I dare you.

stripping OMB of the ability to dole out grants is an enormous win, this nukes the SAVE act, it prohibits further ICE bailouts, adding a "no, really, trump can't break already on-the-books laws regarding elections the federal government doesn't run" clause would be both unnecessary and unproductive

Patty Murray and Chuck Schumer decide to strike a “bipartisan” deal with … checks notes … Susan Collins to fund the Trump regime through December which appears to not to any include any safeguards against Trump’s meddling with midterm elections.

Screenshots of posts from Burgess Everett on X:

“The Senate's CR deal is out from Sens. Collins and Murray. Funds government through Dec. 11

Bill blocks a new rule that would allow the admin to cancel grants to, for example, blue states

Collins says the bill "prevents the Office of Management and Budget (OMB)’s proposed rule regarding federal financial assistance from taking effect"

Murray: "his bill blocks implementation of OMB’s corrupt new grants rule for the duration of the CR. The proposed rule would systematically politicize federal funding and allow Trump officials to cancel grants at any time for any reason."

“Bill also extends surface transportation programs through Dec. 11 (was set to expire Sept. 30

Also has health care extenders

Bottom line is this is going to kick a ton of stuff to Congress's lame duck”

Luis Garcia Jr. is still flying with the Nats to Philly this evening, but he spoke as if he expects to be officially told he's been traded at some point. "It's a mix of both sad and happy. This is a new chapter in my career. 50-50 right now."

To the extent that the media is treating this as a horse story: Max Miller is not a some random candidate from Ohio. This is a picture of President Trump speaking at the wedding of Max Miller and Emily Moreno.

Max Miller now insinuating that Bernie Moreno only is going after him now to deflect from the gay rumors. Everything is just peachy.

If my daughter said the same thing to me, I personally wouldn’t wait two years before holding him accountable. You know this isn’t true and the only reason you are speaking out now is to hide from your own media circus. This is all political.

As a father and husband, I can tell you the last two years have been pure hell for my wife Bridget, our daughter Emily, me, and our entire family in the aftermath of Emily's divorce.

It has been horrific to watch this play out in full public view, all while knowing an innocent

I don’t care much about early presidential primary polling, but it’s pretty glaring to see AOC polling at just 11% when the leftist candidate is winning overwhelmingly in the same sample. She’s not some unknown upstart. Should be doing better even this early.

Very important piece by @davidoatkins.bsky.social at Washington Monthly: the DNC is actually doing just fine and raising record money, and the hit pieces are a product of a tier of useless DC consultants who don't want their media buy gravy train to end. washingtonmonthly.com/2026/07/31/t...

The Case for the DNC’s Ken Martin. Really.

Martin is being excoriated, but he’s taking on the consultant class, building a strong grassroots operation, and raising tons of money.

10-day average Hormuz-exiting oil flow has fallen below 3 MMbpd. That's down ~80% from late June's peak of more than 15 MMbpd. Feels silly to say five months into this, but that's not enough oil.

A very serious Rural Politico once told me "Dems have to go to farmer meetings! We gotta be where the people are!" I was in fact in a farmer meeting at that very moment! So I live-texted him the meeting. They were complaining that they want indentured workers that they don't have to pay or feed.

Lucas Tieman@lucastieman.bsky.social · 6d ago

There would be more pushback if folks left of center were more serious about outreach. But folks aren't despite the fact that our system does give disproportionate power to rural areas. But instead of taking that as the rules of the game as it exists, and actually organizing, we complain about it.
