This is why it matters to teach it as a discipline from day one. People brushing history off as a pile of facts you collect instead of understanding it's a set of analytical skills and approaches you can learn and practice was never funny, it was always dangerous.

Continued joy of the Knicks run: kid and I were out and about yesterday and we ran into a former student at the hardware store who is a big OKC fan (was in class during their title run). Came up and hugged me to congratulate on the title. I love these reminders of, “Oh, that actually happened!”
Amidst all of the awfulness, one thing we can’t forget from these years is how the people who have power, wealth, and influence almost across the board folded to this administration of fascists.

As a Jewish person who has long been concerned about antisemitism, I think it’s fucking bananas that Republicans’ biggest donor is a neo-Nazi and that’s not really a political scandal—but we’re constantly talking about whether my friends on the left have a problem.

Thing that I am trying this year: to recognize and embrace that if I am teaching well in an academic year that in itself is beyond a full-time job to accomplish and try to not focus on all that I can’t accomplish per semester.
Just ask me to say either Florida or orange and you know exactly where I am from.
My idea: don’t do things to be hated across the board by Chicagoans.
