Scared for the future of the USA. 😢

While Alaskans have been clear they don’t want data centers here driving up our energy costs, Dan’s promoting them as his family business profits off them. At a time when energy costs are crushing Alaska families, this is as self-serving as it gets.

Dan Sullivan says Alaska’s ideal for data centers

While Dan Sullivan says Alaska's ideal for data centers, his family’s multibillion-dollar company has been selling them specialized chemicals.

Beverly and Jeff Morris lived in peace and quiet on their beautiful farm before Meta broke ground on a data center complex next door. Now, they don't have clean drinking water and are dealing with constant noise pollution.

A great resource and conversation-starting point, esp for if you’ve been working for / are helping elect candidates who have made hay about regulating data centers. The gross inequality that the tech oligarchy has produced can be addressed through local and state law, not just the feds…

Why is Trump so committed to data centers when the public hates them? Look to little Homer City, Pa., where POTUS touted a $15 billion Amazon data center and its polluting gas plant -- not long before his son-in-law Jared Kushner's fund bought in My new column www.inquirer.com/opinion/hype...

This & nested, and seriously, the ad buys used to at least make money circulate — ad spends became salaries for station staffers & contracts for actors, crew, and ad producers. The money used to get back into the economy. But consultants are already wealthy. They’re not spending, they’re hoarding.

Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.

"In the end, barely $13 of your $100 buys real airtime or digital ads." Incredible. Think about that next time one of those "strategic consultants" appears on TV because he or she really knows politics.

Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.

"Democrats traded their younger donors for squeezed seniors," showing the share of the party’s small-dollar donations (under $200) from 2012 to 2026. The subtitle reads: "In 2026, about 175,000 squeezed seniors — donors 65 and older charged 50 or more times in a cycle — supplied 51% of those donations. Gen X, Millennials and Gen Z, roughly 63% of registered Democrats, supplied 15%."
Two lines track donation shares from 2012 to 2026:
"Squeezed seniors" (orange line) starts around 9% in 2012, rises to 30% in 2018 and 2020, then jumps sharply to 45% in 2022, 47% in 2024, and 51% in 2026.
"Gen X, Millennials & Gen Z" (green line) starts around 17% in 2012, peaks around 33% in 2020, and then drops sharply to 18% in 2022, 19% in 2024, and 15% in 2026.
A vertical dashed line at April 2021 is labeled: "The Supreme Court (Facebook v. Duguid) clears the way for mass fundraising texts, piled on top of the email spam already flooding inboxes."
Footnote: "Shares are by number of donations. By dollars, squeezed seniors gave 39% of small-dollar money in 2026 and Gen X, Millennials and Gen Z gave 18%. Squeezed seniors are donors 65 and older charged 50 or more times in an election cycle. 2026 is mid-cycle.

We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.

Where your $100 donation actually goes
Of every $100 raised by a Democratic fundraising text, $73 goes to consultants and vendors. Only $13 reaches voters as advertising — the most expensive dollar to raise in American politics.

The current PHP shitshow is especially vexing because on the one hand, it is very much a big deal, but on the other, there is no widespread SUCCESSFUL exploitation of this vulnerability YET. Despite the latter, a whole lot of asshats are hyping the former for clicks and soundbytes.

“If every piece of software is a door, AI makes it exceptionally easy to turn turn the knobs of every door to see if it’s unlocked ... Not only are some of the locks easy to pick, in some cases the door is wide open or there’s a giant hole in the wall.”
