Men will send me emails like this and then go rampaging on the streets of Dover and Portsmouth claiming they want to keep refugees out in order to “PROTECT OUR WOMEN!” Not a single one of the young male refugees I’ve worked with has ever spoken to me with such violent misogyny.

Every now and then, it’s worth saying what ought to be obvious: trans people have always existed, and will exist as long as humans do. They’ve not done anything wrong by wanting their existence recognised, supported, and celebrated. The transformation of their existence into “an issue” is evil.

twenty years ago people attacked universities by deriding “Mickey Mouse degrees” like media studies in favour of “proper” subjects like history, and now universities are skipping that step and simply abolishing everything that isn’t economics

Why would we want to learn from our pasts, or ponder the power of the written and spoken word, or explore the deep questions of humanity? According to the University of Hertfordshire, we wouldn't. They've just cut all of our undergrad Humanities programmes

you know the way "why did the Roman Empire fall" and "what are the causes of the First World War" are big questions that sort of function like Rorsharch tests, allowing people to debate ultimately inexplicable moments in history? "Why did no one stop Trump" a decent future shout for the third.

Given that the UK's position in the last 50 years is that settlements are illegal and Israel cannot annex the West Bank, banning trade with West Bank settlements is really the absolutely minimal ask. It's pathetic that it hasn't happened.

119 UK Parliamentarians call for further sanctions on Israel and a total ban on all trade and interaction with illegal Israeli settlements in letter to @yvettecooper-mp.bsky.social following yet further illegal Israeli government measures in the occupied State of Palestine. caabu.org/news/news/11...

Yanar Mohammed is one of Iraq’s most prominent women’s rights activists and established the country’s first shelters for survivors of domestic violence and trafficking. She was assassinated outside her Baghdad home when two gunmen on motorcycles opened fire in the morning.

Labour has brought back section 28 against trans and non-binary individuals. I lived through section 28 last time. I suffered the harms of it. This will do the same thing. Not even allowing young people to socially transition is plain wrong. It prevents them finding their own identity.

The Epstein emails should really end the debate over whether society should have billionaires. "Do you want there to be a class of people so powerful they can fuck your kids and no one will even try to do anything" seems like an easy sell if everyone in politics wasn't trying to get on their payroll

It’s 1:04 am in Kyiv and siren went off because Russia is attacking us with drones . Hate the beginning of the siren , that loud first note and when it starts rising, crawling through your bones and muscles. it’s the most disgusting part. It gets under your skin. I was told once that it’s by design

In April 2024, Spotify implemented a new scheme: songs with less than 1k streams per year would no longer receive royalties. The data for 2025 was just released via Luminate, and 88% of songs have been demonetized. Read it again: 88% of songs on Spotify have been demonetized.

I think analysts specifically, and society more broadly, underestimate how much white supremacy and belief in conquest and racial hierarchy motivate the decisions of this administration. Like yes its "neo-royalism," yes its oil, but also its white supremacy.
