One of my favourite substack, @jennmcclearen.bsky.social’s Publish Not Perish, is suspending its weekly writing check-ins, which have been so helpful. So I’m starting a Writing Syllabus where you’re welcome to share your writing goals or roadmap for the week. Showing up and writing matters.
It’s nice to see everyone’s textual analysis of The Odyssey It’s almost like the humanities give you entertainment, feelings, pleasure, and fun/interesting stuff to talk about, as well as lenses into both past and current society
Big thanks to @jennmcclearen.bsky.social for this reminder that everyday, ordinary, tough slogs of writing counts just as much as the breakthrough, eureka writing www.publishnotperish.net/p/the-case-f...
The Case for Ordinary Writing Sessions | Ep. 48

My partner and I moved to the Netherlands two years ago. I am self-employed, and she's employed, but at a company that frequently does layoffs. I cannot overstate how much relief it is to decouple healthcare from work in the precarious world of late capitalism.

It’s worth noting that Taco Bell identified the source before the FDA did, and promptly pulled it from their stores. The FDA didn’t even name the source until Taylor Farms outed themselves, and hasn’t issued a recall. Basically, Taco Bell is now a more reliable authority than the FDA.
Taylor Farms, which supplies major fast food and grocery chains, was identified as the possible source of the cyclosporiasis outbreak Thursday.
Today, the AAUP & Texas AAUP sued Texas Tech Chancellor Brandon Creighton over directives he gave that mandated the censorship & thought policing of thousands of faculty & students leading to the suppression of academic freedom & the pursuit of knowledge. More Here: www.aaup.org/news/aaup-te... 🧵

Overwhelmed by a too-long To Do list and facing decision paralysis? DON'T DECIDE. Let the world decide for you. Number the top 6 things and roll a die or ask a random number generator. Do whatever it lands on for 15-25 min, take a 5 min break, & repeat until you have momentum or feel accomplished.

Stop fucking saying he blamed “DEI,” which is some abstract, non-tangible idea. He is blaming people of color having jobs he thinks they aren’t qualified for. He’s blaming race. He’s being racist every time he says it. Journalists need to get fucking backbones, my word.
