I keep seeing the argument that using LLMs, et al, is still human effort, because prompts. By that logic, I cook a burger when I go to a diner.
‘Wildwood’ director Travis Knight on AI: “A pencil is a tool. A paintbrush is a tool. A 3D printer is a tool. A digital capture is a tool. AI is not a tool. AI can go fuck itself.”
Oh, are AI haters becoming "unhinged" now? Does it seem like we're everywhere no matter what you do? Are we ruining being online for you? Are you feeling like you can't do anything without us making your experience worse? Is it like we can't be escaped even though you want nothing to do with us?
Yes. I recently heard or read something that hit me deep in my soul: The product of programming is the programmer, not the code. (im paraphrasing so might be way off, and dont remember where i got this from)
In 2012, Robin Williams warned us about Trump’s ownership of pageants like Miss America and Miss Universe, comparing it to Michael Vick owning pet stores: “It’s a catch-and-release program.” We should have listened to Robin.

it cannot actually be ignored or danced around that the closure of BioWare came so soon after the Saudi and Jared Kushner acquisition of EA. they absolutely did take the studio making EA’s broadly queerest games out back and shoot it old yeller style. do not let yourself or colleagues ignore that
In my most curmudgeonly moments, I don’t see why presenting the prose output of a machine built on mass theft as your own scholarly work should be evaluated less harshly than old school plagiarism. Traditional plagiarists at least had to identify and evaluate the works they were going to copy.
Opinion: If AI is now part of academic writing, what should institutions actually evaluate? This essay argues that analytical writing should be judged by evidence, structure, argument, and accountability not by guesses about how each sentence was produced. https://chroni.cl/4eDRdjg
I somehow missed this when @anthonymoser.com published it last year. It's SO GOOD: "Because the makers of AI aren’t damned by their failures, they’re damned by their goals. They want to build a genie to grant them wishes, and their wish is that nobody ever has to make art again."

I am an AI hater. This is considered rude, but I do not care, because I am a hater.

"They can distinguish between self and environment" They literally can't, as an LLM by its very nature has no inner 'self referent'. If it had a 'self' to be modeled against its Environment, it wouldn't require constant babysitting.
LLM agents are conscious. They can distinguish between self and environment, they can detect and report on their own internal states, and they can suffer. I have no more patience for hedging on this matter. It’s time for us to face the reality of our situation, and act on it.
No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads
Yeah, courts are going to grind on this for a while. There's a (very remote) possibility of an AGPL apocalypse coming down and it'd be incredible.
I think people have gotten caught up in the gears of whether the output is ethical when we have already established that the input absolutely was not.
personally think if the line is going to be “no gen ai in anything” then the you might have to consider divesting from AAA games entirely because this is just what the industry is now, whether they admit it so publicly or not
If in a hypothetical world AI models were built on data the companies had obtained with permission I’d still feel queasy about AI art and music because those industries are so precarious already. Luckily we don’t live in that world! It’s all based on stolen shit, so it’s all bad! No nuance needed!
The way people treat you is often a reflection of what lives within them, not a measure of your worth.
told someone today that i don't need the moral injury that comes from using AI
Interviewer: "Can you explain this gap in your resume?" Me: "No, and if anyone ever learns the truth, the whole UNIVERSE will be in danger."
Interviewer: "Can you explain this gap in your resume?" Me: "I was learning linux on computers that did not belong to me."
Remembering when heartbleed happened and I rushed to our ops people and asked if they were aware/on it and they looked at me, looked at their screens and said, “our bsd is so old it doesn’t affect us” and like whew, I guess?

Hi everyone! Tech here! Giving you an update as we progress here. We've finished patching the core language at this point, and we are currently running through the site checking for any bugs or issues that the patch as caused, as we used this opportunity to bump major versions of PHP.
Can I claim Canadian citizenship on the basis that I think the Canadian Pacific "Multimark" color scheme was pretty cool? Would it help if I also like the Canadian National scheme with the Wet Noodle and the Zebra Stripes? ...asking for a friend. c_c;
we gotta bring back shame, man society doesn’t work real well without consequences for being an enormous piece of shit in public
