My first visit ever to Mia was to see my own art hanging in a gallery. Getting 3rd place in the largest crop art class was an incredible enough honor on its own. Being one of 31 pieces selected for Cream of the Crop feels like a dream. I will never get over this. Thank you @artsmia.bsky.social!

Amber Leick Born 1989 St. Paul, Minnesota Crop Artemis) Il: Seeds of Tranquility, 2026 Lentils and quinoa on canvas board In a year plagued by darkness and fear, the Artemis Il mission was a beacon of hope and joy. I was deeply moved by the images the crew captured during the Lunar Flyby, especially one titled “Craters of Time.” The photo shows how millions of years of collisions have carved craters of different shapes, sizes, and depths, continually changing the moon’s surface throughout time. Rather than attempting to capture its beauty through colors and shading, my recreation of the moon’s surface is made from 90,000 grains of quinoa layered on top of each other.

Anyway. There's a lot more, including some fairly detailed allegations of retaliation and threats which are harder to concisely screen-shot. Go and read it. Her shouldn't be mayor; I believe this even with enormous skepticism of police testimony as a rule.

I’m back with my selfish(ish) crop art take now that the Mia exhibit is open: Everyone still writing about this year’s pieces needs to stop featuring Guernica at the top of their articles and in the link cards. It’s been everywhere for weeks. Show your readers/viewers something different.

It’s very simple and it’s been said over and over but I guess it needs saying continuously: if you deem one group too small to have equal rights you are enabling fascism, not fighting it. The people saying Dems are GREAT on trans rights are not paying attention and/or saying stuff like this.
