Running for Berkeley Council District 1 Rossforberkeley.com https://secure.actblue.com/donate/ross-bernet-1/

NW Berkeley home prices hit $1.5M this summer - that makes ownership impossible for most regular people. Berkeley has done a good job building rental apartments, but we need more paths to ownership. Condos, missing middle housing & single-stair reform will help bring young families to Berkeley.

Reporting from Berkeley on why repaving must include street safety upgrades! After Rose St was repaved, speeds jumped 5mph—increasing collision risk. Thanks to 2024’s Measure FF, we have funds for speed bumps & traffic calming to reach our Vision Zero goals. 📹: @brandonyung.bsky.social 🙏

Jean Walsh is the real deal! She leads with enthusiasm, principles, and strategic vision, never settling for status quo public transit in Alameda County. Plus, her car-free happy hours are a monthly treat! I'm honored to have her endorsement and support out door knocking with me! 🚌🚏❤️💪

I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of California State Assemblymember @buffywicks.bsky.social As a dedicated champion for housing, Assemblymember Wicks continues to lead the charge on making housing more abundant and affordable across our state. Grateful for her leadership 🙏

I am incredibly disappointed & frustrated that AB 1903, my bill to reform construction defect liability, just died in the Senate. Critical components were amended out Friday & it was ultimately held by the Senate late last night — missing the midnight deadline for concurrence.

I know we're all tee-hee-heeing over Trump's deranged, attempted renaming spree, but all I can feel is this gnawing nausea This behavior is 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘦, and our oligarch-controlled media are all but incapable of saying it If any Dem president had done this, they'd have been impeached by dinner

btw what inspired this post was a bike trip to berkeley bowl west and finally noting a duplex being built on ninth. looking it up now it was proposed as soon as missing middle zoning kicked in (13th of nov 25), approved within two weeks, and it's already at framing. that's what i like to see!

i manually track new housing developments in berkeley & a Good Problem that has emerged is i'm noticing missing middle housing cropping up on my journeys that are too small to be worth the effort to track but are undoubtedly gonna make up an increasing share of projects actually underway.

I get that rebalancing street design away from car dominance is inconvenient to those whose lifestyle is fully oriented around driving. But personal passenger vehicles are the No 1 source of GHG emissions in CA. Taking action to address this isn't "environmentalism gone awry", it's a core component.

"Berkeley resident Max Lynn watched in disbelief last month as the City Council voted to eliminate over half of the parking spaces on Hopkins Street in favor of bike lanes. Not because he's anti-environment, but because he viewed it as environmentalism gone awry.
"I've lived here for 23 years, and I've ridden bikes, walked, ran, driven cars up and down the street the whole time," Lynn said. "I'm not sure why they need to be so radical. It's almost militant.""Chart of "2023 GHG Emissions by Scoping Plan Sector and Sub-Sector." showing transportation as the biggest pie piece at 37.1% and passenger vehicles specifically at 28.3%

“I’m not sure why they need to be so radical. It’s almost militant,” said one resident of the new configuration.

Thank you @bluejekyll.bsky.social Even in Berkeley we need to fight for progress that should be obvious. Everyone says meeting voters is the essential differentiator for winning. We starting door knocking! Sign up to knock doors with me or donate on my website. Rossforberkeley.Com

We have a fight to keep the forward momentum in Berkeley going. While my Councilmember is one of those people who would help block that progress, I can support Ross as someone who can represent my values, even if I can’t vote for him. www.rossforberkeley.com Thanks for running @rosszb.bsky.social!

fellas Car-Free Telegraph is officially listed in Alameda County Transportation Commission's draft Countywide Transportation Plan with an estimated price tag of $30m. this is a seal of legitimacy-- our county transportation funding agency and the city see it as a top priority! we will deliver this

SO remember car-free Telegraph? berkeley city council just approved $1.3 million for design and engineering last night!! enormous thank you to @adenaishii.bsky.social for including this in her budget and @cecilialunaparra.bsky.social and @telegraphforpeople.bsky.social for carrying this forward 🥹🥹

Jane Kim, the current front-runner for the state insurance commissioner, would make this already unsustainable problem even worse. She wants you to subsidize fire insurance for rich people who choose to live in the urban-wildland interface where wildfires do the most property damage.

Urban Land Rent 🇸🇴🚰@urbanlandrent.bsky.social · 2mo ago

This is the first time I’ve ever seen a CA publication speak plainly about both the stakes (and the basic distributional politics involved) The FAIR plan is a ticking time bomb and the primary problem is it promises to insure uninsurable property for rich people. www.latimes.com/business/sto...

The absurdity of the Hopkins saga is what radicalized me and got me interested in engaging Berkeley politics in the first place. I’m running for D1 and safe streets is a core priority of mine. Climate, community, public safety and personal health: bike lanes are the way 💪🚲 Rossforberkeley.Com

The Berkeley City Council will vote on whether to provide protected bike lanes on Hopkins Street. What's interesting is that they did already, back in 2022. When that vote happened (which was later derailed), my older daughter was not yet born. She will start TK the week after this vote.

Get ready to support a July 28 Council vote to make Hopkins smooth, safe, and accessible for all!
Back in April, at safe streets advocates’ urging, City Council’s infrastructure-focused committee unanimously recommended that Council reject a proposal to repave Hopkins with only pedestrian improvements unless it is changed to include bike lanes and transit improvements. Since then, Councilmember Kesarwani (D1) has developed a new proposal that largely aligns with the committee’s recommendations and adopted City plans. You can read the new and improved proposal here starting on page 63. On July 28, Council will vote on it.

The proposed design has 1-way protected bike lanes on each side of the street from The Alameda to Peralta (where they will connect to the Ohlone Greenway). It also proposes painted bike lanes and traffic calming from The Alameda to Sutter, traffic calming from Peralta to San Pablo, and pedestrian safety and transit improvements. So while there’s room for improvement, this is a huge step forward.
