The Mayor of NYC is just repeatedly showing folks how easily cities can make bold changes for our kids. Here in #Halisky these initiatives get buried in years of studies and council proceedings until someday we get more crossing guards and a road safety education program.

Happy to be doing a keynote at the 2026 Safe Routes To School Conference in Minneapolis this October. The simple act of getting my kids to school on bikes is what changed everything for me - so a real full circle moment.

We're inspired by families like @mommypedals.bsky.social, @realdocbrown.bsky.social or @jkparker.bsky.social who use cargobikes & e-bikes to move thru the city (core & 'burbs) as families, 90% of the time. But without better public & regional transit, car-lite is the reasonable option & that's ok.

We were car-free in Edmonton for 7 years while raising kids but it's tough (especially if with friends/family in the suburbs). Car-lite is quite possible for most families though, and combined with a commitment to older/used cars, it's the key to financial independence for the middle class IMO.

Have you seen this? www.caa.ca/driving-safe... We are honoured to associated with them! They teach the right thing and that responsibility lies with pedestrians, cyclists, and motorized vehicles. Sorry, we're just not the negative type and had to really think of a kind response.
