I don't know who needs a real pickmeup today, but in recent court filings about the wealth owned by Andrew Tate, they indicate the Bugattis and Aston Martin he always bragged about owning... were rented. All of them.

On paper, she is the most educated, experienced, and qualified person that I can remember. But that is often the case when women are appointed to lead organizations in crisis, especially Black women. Hope her ability to lead and look out for public health isn't undermined by the regime's agenda.

Dr. Erica Schwartz becoming the first Black woman to lead the CDC is historic, but representation & accountability must go together. Trust must be earned by defending science, protecting the CDC’s independence, and putting public health above political pressure. I’ll be watching. #DrUB

"Africa bears a heavy infectious-disease burden and is home to a quarter of the world’s biodiversity, yet it accounts for under two percent of pharmaceutical patents: the continent’s plants, fungi, and marine organisms are a formidable but underused resource to address antimicrobial resistance."

GOOD NEWS! A personalized mRNA vaccine, known as mRNA-4157, has shown promise in keeping melanoma, a deadly skin cancer, from returning. FIVE years later, NEARLY 70% of people in the vaccine group are CANCER-FREE. The vaccine also cut a person’s risk of the cancer metastasizing by NEARLY 60%.

A personalized vaccine for melanoma cut the risk of cancer returning after five years

If the vaccine is effective in a late-stage trial, it would be “paradigm-shifting,” one expert said.

They did exactly what you should NOT do: they made sudden & massive cuts in health & humanitarian aid When you do this, our research has shown that you get disease resurgence & deaths The deaths caused by Musk “putting USAID into the wood chipper” (his words) were predictable & preventable 13/n

Health aid can lead to health system fragmentation & inefficiency when allocated to vertical (disease-specific) programs So: aid has saved millions of lives (e.g. the Global Fund estimates it has saved 70 million lives, Gavi estimates 21 million deaths prevented) but it has downsides too 10/n

I’m grateful to @nickkristof.bsky.social for his continued reporting on the Trump Administration’s horrific retreat from global health cooperation—which has had deadly consequences—& for sharing the painful human stories of deaths that could have been averted I guess this topic is kind of my lane 🧵

Elon Musk says that no one died because of his demolition of USAID, and that "Kristof is lying through his teeth." So here I invite him to join me on a visit to Africa to see for himself: www.nytimes.com/2026/07/01/o...

What billionaire racist would have an interest in limiting the soft power of Black American culture as well as trivializing the life-saving effectiveness of USAid? Probably one that caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of black babies by gutting it through DOGE.

"We must not forget that decolonisation is a political project that seeks to end untenable conditions of global life. Anything else is merely fairy-tale, delusion and self-deception. For African scholars, the future of African studies cannot be more important than the future of African people."

I make 2 arguments in this essay. Firstly, the absence of proper engagement with Africa in global curricula is an affront to knowledge. Secondly, African Studies does not resolve this, and the decolonisation of a colonial discipline may not be the answer either. folukeafrica.com/africa-missi...
