The way most American's really don't consider texture actually drives me nuts as a texture first eater. Like the difference in my ability to eat yogurt is if your stir it. If the yogurt is stirred I can't eat it.

"First time Trump voter" five days after the January 6th Coup attempt:
A Haitian man legally immigrated to Ohio, then was given an ankle monitor bc Trump withdrew his status. He threw himself in front of truck. The trucker, who voted for Trump, is haunted. “Pierre was doing what he was supposed to do. We did not do right by him.” www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...
I hope it haunts him for the rest of his life.

It's a toss up between Chucky in Child's Play and Will Wheaton's character dying in Toy Soldiers (spoilers)
In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?
When I was moving I was lucky enough to have a wall on my property where I could just put stuff. I think I messaged the free stuff account on instagram. Everything to taken.
giving stuff away on Facebook marketplace and buy nothing groups is such a wiiiild experience. The amount of labor and communication people need to come grab a like, free plant or end table is unreal
i remain so alarmed by all the discourse about how people can use AI to get good deals / fight wage theft / counteract extractive insurance practices that doesn’t acknowledge that — if you accept this works — the companies on the other side … also can use it to do the opposite?
Bizarrely, this is one of the six graphs illustrating "just how much we need A.I.".
Earlier this week, I agreed to interviews with two USA Today journalists. They wrote fantastic articles about the Cornell case that I'm proud to have been a part of. What I did not know is that their employer considers interviews to proprietary and opens up recordings to be used by any journalist.
I heard about this man for the first time in my life today, in a completely different context unrelated to AI, and now here.
Great chance to post my all-time favorite headline
This is actually a really good idea! I’ve been trying to think of what movies I could watch while on the treadmill, and that would probably be a great one
Thinking about the guy who (allegedly) woke up to that in the group chat, screen shot it and sent it to Jane Doe.
Just when you thought “smile you’ll look prettier” couldn’t get worse…
Attn NYC: Ricky's is apparently coming back 😭
Every so often I think about how so many people do not know about the Beaver Drop. We used to be a country.

from a privacy and just a basic legal compliance perspective, training on CSAM and beheading videos in order to interpose a cartoon filter over suspected violations is a nightmare but i spent maybe eight months working closely on a project to allow people to do it so they wouldn't have to watch
I do not think there is a salary you could pay me to do the job people have subjected themselves to voluntarily
ok leaving this up on the conference room whiteboard
these river otters are blissfully unaware the Cuyahoga has 13 fires in its history

The Keynote Speaker at the Annual National Catholic Prayer Breakfast in March, folks.
Apparently, On Love is Blind Netherlands a (white) man said he doesn't date Black people to a Black woman and defended it by saying he's 1/6 Indonesian and wow Dutch people are not beating the allegations.
A movie theater should do something where for like 40 bucks on Earth Day you get to watch the Tomorrow War, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Don't Look Up and this new Tom Cruise flick back-to-back.
This movie looks unhinged and potentially terrible but it's a climate change movie so I will watch it at some point h/t @ninametz.bsky.social
Tom Cruise Finally Slips And Falls With ‘Digger’
Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s climate parable is a tremendous dud.

Is the goal to get us to hate the postal service (which is actually well liked) so we support gutting it?
USPS says the cameras, put on USPS truck dashboards, will scan roads, signs, and more. @evystadium.bsky.social has more. Story by @josephcox.bsky.social here: www.404media.co/usps-to-put-...
I've said it before, I've said it again: Bluesky has a disproportionate and extremely loud percentage of users who think it's morally righteous to abuse people as long as it's for a good enough cause, and an even larger percentage of users who specialize in justifying why causes are good.
Cornell rush happens in the gap between Fall and Spring Semester of a student's Freshman year (there's also a fall rush but that's not for Freshman). Students cannot move into Greek housing until Sophomore year. Housing isn't the issue.
The thing that will end the Greek system is abundant student housing both on and off campus.
Alumni dollars keeps the Greek system alive. That's it.
What kind of scandal will it take to lead to the widespread elimination of Greek fraternities? Hazing so severe it results in serious maiming or death? It's happened. Absolutely hideous sexual assaults? It's happened. Terroristic actions in pursuit of campus political power? It's happened!
Okay so I don’t think this is true - historically speaking, mass violence consistently comes from an attempted rejection (rather than a *lack*) of empathetic impulses, which exist whether we want them to or not, and desire to distance oneself from an externalized target.
A U.S. Army psychologist Gustave M. Gilbert interviewed Nazi war criminals on trial at Nuremberg and famously wrote in his 1950 book, "Evil, I think, is the absence of empathy." It was the *lack* of empathy that made the Holocaust possible.
Honest q, as a small child I loved sleeping in closets. Like I would remove every show from my closet and haul my comforter from my bed and sleep on the closet floor with nothing but the glow of my glow in the dark rosary beads. My favorite place to nap was the linen closet. Am I alone in this?
Update: Christa Pike still alive after administered execution drugs, attorneys say. www.tennessean.com/story/news...

I mean I'm glad she's coming at us instead of doing some incoherent racism, but once again: JCO is the truest chaos poster and you can't let your guard down for a second. LOL
What the fuck, Joyce. I don’t even read romance novels but this kind of thinking pisses me the fuck off. It further pushes that mentality that some books as “lesser” which is bullshit! All books count!
