At last year's gamescom my boss wanted a vox pop montage of devs saying their personal favourite games and one guy just point blank refused to say any. Even with a PR there going 'it's totally fine' he was like 'I was told to mention only our game or other games by [giant publisher he worked at]'

did an interview recently where I asked a dev, "what would you put on a watch/read/playlist for someone excited, to help them get ready for your game?" & the producer looked me dead in the windows of my soul & said "well, we've got a lot of good trailers & would like them to watch those"

It's become a sort of industry cultural ideal and it's easy to be coerced into but there's only one party that benefits from stressful crunched development: the C-suite. When that stress results in failure, the artists are always the ones holding the bag.
