Realization I had in therapy yesterday: a big part of why I have stuck with running is because it is selfish. Not in a bad way, in a "this is maybe the ONE part of my life that JUST benefits me" kinda way. And we all need that. I run because I enjoy it, I like the challenge. And its just for me.

First ever half marathon done and dusted. Even beat my goal time by almost a minute.
Saw an article touting mini horses as "guide dogs" and a lot of the points, very good. But the article used the phrase "stay calm" with a straight face and I don't think the author has ever MET a horse, especially a mini. Friends, all horses are FLIGHT animals. They react VERY differently than dogs.
All the time. People seem to think I’m insulting myself when I say this, but I know SO MANY talented people who didn’t hit like I did. Yes, I AM talented! Yes, I DO work hard! But you can wallpaper a battleship with talented hard-working artists, and we don’t all get that break.
I tell people all the time that I got lucky with my career and it annoys a lot of them. "No, but you're good," they will say, and I will say, yes, I am good, and also here are all these people who write as well as I do but did not get the same break, so being good isn't the issue, being lucky is.
What's your favorite smell? 1. fresh baked bread 2. cozy old bookstore 3. forest in the rain 4. coffee & a functioning democracy
Our electric company went a survey, FINE I'll fill it out... 15 questions in I wasn't even 50% of the way through? Closed the tab. Do not do this, this is wasting people's time.
Or we could, hear me out, pay everyone a living wage that would give them the agency to not experience all of these money shortage emergencies.... (And build public transit, universal childcare, etc).
Unexpected absences can cost employers tens of thousands of dollars a month. An app that helps workers with last-minute transportation, food and childcare is making a difference.
"It appears we are adapted to a range of CO2 in the air that may now have been surpassed." The younger you are, the greater your lifetime expossure to carbon dioxide will be. Worse: folks *younger than you* will be in charge when you're elderly. Even selfish people need those people to be well. 🧪
Cheery. Your blood levels of carbon dioxide are significantly higher than they were when you were waiting to see if Y2K was going to mean something or not. Can't wait to reach population levels like we've all taken barbiturates—tra la tra la www.sciencedaily.com/releases/202...
This one scared the shit out of me, spent two days in the vet hospital with an impaction and is finally back home. And no, he does not believe in hay nets.
Wild oat and barley bread was served with hot soft cheese and chive dip, a large mint-cream cake was brought out, and strawberry fizz cordial and melon juice flowed freely.
PTSD & insecure attachment are heavily correlated. Imagine a house with secure foundations or a house with insecure foundations in a hurricane. So, integration often takes longer. Not bc there’s anything wrong, just bc we need to start from earlier in the process.
What’s a thing from your area of expertise (or special interest) that you think it would behoove everyone else to know?
Pet peeve: a dress advertised as cotton-cashmere blend when really... This shit is cotton viscose. Should be illegal to name something after a fiber that makes up less than 40% of the content. Period.
My Michigan comes out most when we start talking about mountains and *age.* Did you know the UP has a mountain range? Did you know that mountain range is literally older than ALL LIFE on Earth? Yeah. Mountains hit different, when the history of life is an eye-blink.
I was literally JUST doing a talk about this with @mcmanlypants.bsky.social an hour ago! The thing is that the Rockies are so much bigger than you that they don’t notice if you exist. But the Appalachians are so much older than you that if they notice you, bad shit’s about to go down.
What radicalized you? "Being in a training with therapists from other countries who listened to us Americans talk and then, in horror said: "Wait, you're saying YOUR insurance companies don't just pay what you bill them for client appointments? THEY set YOUR rates???" Their shock and horror did it."
Wow. So listen fellow therapist you have all the specialties this client needs, you take their insurance. But then I went to your website and it was COVERED with AI generated images of you. And nope, I'm not referring to someone I can't trust is who they present to be.
You don't need to fit in. Be yourself. Live in a tower made of books, paint your car to look like a ghost shark, or summon ravens to bring you burritos. Shine your weird light in the darkness forever.
In late summer of 2021, I saw women in the COVID ICU who had lost their late-term pregnancies and were also going to die because they didn’t get the vaccine.
If you are a causal watcher and you hear people saying this, and no pushback, you assume its true. No wonder people are mad. But in reality, this is what the actual evidence, still on the CDC website, says: www.cdc.gov/covid/vaccin...
Monitor back. I'm impressed with ASUS. Monitor died on a Sunday, I had the RMA number & prepaid (on them, not me) shipping label within 30 minutes. Shipped it out the next Thursday and today (Tuesday) it is back with a new LCD and works perfectly.
Have spent HOURS trying to get fillable PDF to accurately hold the data I enter and not randomly move it to various other fields. Finally gave up, downloaded a clean copy and printed it. I will use my Gen X skills to fill it out BY HAND and mail the sucker in. Sometimes computers make things worse.
Made fried avocado tacos for dinner tonight and seriously it is so easy and so good. (Slice up some avocado, flour drench, egg, then panko (seasoned how you like). Pan fry. Add whatever other stuff you like in your tacos. Enjoy.)
"okay but even if the vaccines are no longer 'recommended', people can still get them!" yeah so lemme tell you which vaccines american insurance will pay for. recommended ones
Filling out a stupid fillable PDF for the city for my therapy business. Fine. But umm, every time I save it the data MOVES FIELDS? I have never had this happen before and it is like whack-a-mole? I'm gonna have to print it and fill it out by hand aren't I? 🤦♀️

Bringing a Jungian Couples Therapy book to the concert like a totally normal person. (Listen if you want me to show up somewhere 3 hours before the event I paid for I'm going to bring a book.)
Perimenopause is buying concert tix and forgetting about it until day of, and then having to text all your perimenopause friends to see who also bought tix because you can't remember. 🙄
My superpower: as a medical historian, I am one of the few people in the world who can make you feel good about living in 2026 😂
Me, leading people from the other place to #Bluesky! Welcome, newbies! I'm a medical historian who likes to remind people the past was pretty awful. If you ever wondered what would happen if you needed a leg amputated in 1832, or if you had a toothache in 1765 - look no further.
"Pay me what I'm worth" should've been a demand for insurers to pay more fairly, not this current reality where we're all just nickle-and-diming each other for consult groups and/or CEs. 😫
Say it louder for the people in back! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 A therapist should be able to live off of a 20 ct/hr caseload. Plus a few supervision and/or adjunct hours for those who like to teach. I especially want us to get out of this pay-to-play cycle re consult groups, and insanely expensive branded trainings.
I want clinicians (*esp* early career!) to be able to access quality CEs for reasonable prices. In WA State, associates need 18 CEs/year... this easily runs $1500+, or maybe you choose to access lower-quality content. It shouldn't be like this.

Therapists did not create the labor market that abuses them Stop telling them to diversify Stop telling therapists to be coaches Sponsored content Selling merch or supplements Therapists should be able to perform therapy & make a living wage without needing to have a whole portfolio of revenue
