Me, lamenting in session: "[New friend] is out of the country the next two weeks. So I have to drive to class." GVD: "Oh? Where is she?" Me: "Uh... Denmark? The Netherlands? Holland? What even is Holland. Wherever Copenhagen is, I know that much." GVD: "Holland is... Holland is a state of mind."

Oh, hell yeah. Throw on some crushed Doritos and I could almost pretend I'm back in the Midwest!
you don't count as a Seattle resident until you look at this brand-new Pagliacci x Taco Time collab pizza and think it actually sounds delicious (if these toppings are gluten free, Pagliacci, then go ahead and slap #ad on this and send me seven plz)
Now would be an incredible time to see all the amazing men in my life raging against the Cornell 7 and refusing to soften that rage until we shape our culture to no longer defend rapists.
They're baaaaack! Every winter 10s of thousands of snow geese descend on the Skagit Valley from their nesting grounds in the Arctic to feast for the winter. We generally see them start to arrive in mid-October, but we have some early arrivals this year!
That, and we have a story like this every few years. It never fucking stops.
the cornell story is one of those things that’s just so grievous and infuriating from every angle that you almost can’t look directly at the thing without feeling your mind collapse. like how pondering the size of universe can make you dizzy, except it’s the size of human capacity for evil.

Telling Canadian friend about the Speechify app: Me: "I could have Snoop Dogg read psychoanalysis to me!" Canadian friend: "I think you need more weed first."
I deeply hope she gets far more help than I did. I can you... it destroyed my 20s. It took me nearly a decade to finish my BA &set me back on the MA I had to earn to be a therapist. It impacts my clinical work- who I can and can't work with. 20 years later &every October is still so, so fraught.
What about her future? What about how hard she worked to be there? What is to become of her life now? What process of justice could possibly right these wrongs? And how much more will she lose in the process of trying to get it? How much more of this are we all supposed to tolerate?
All of this is happening to college students at the very beginning of their adult lives. It shapes everything that comes after. And it shapes society for the rest of us too. Imagine what our world would look like if all of those women had been able to complete their educations, free from violence.
💯 I have over $300k in student loan debt, in large part bc this one night so disrupted the course of my education. I owe private and federal loans on a degree I never actually earned. Violation of Title IX rights would fully forgive that debt, in a more just world.
One of the main reasons that the student loan crisis disproportionately affects women is because victims who can’t complete their educations still have the debt from it—even if they never get the degrees that unlock careers that can pay that debt back.
This was my experience. I was told it would violate his rights to evict/expel him, absent an arrest (and/or conviction?). No one told me *I* had rights. And I was already marked as unreliable given a MH hx my parents disclosed w/o my consent. You can imagine what happened next as PTSD sx emerged.
Nearly 40% of survivors who report to their schools are pushed out in one way or another—usually, at the urging of school staff who want them to leave. (In comparison, less than 1% of perpetrators are suspended or expelled.)
Kat is right about all of this. One of the reasons that college sexual violence is uniquely devastating is because it changes the victim’s entire future.

...then again. If IFPE was *always* the last weekend of October or first weekend of November (it isn't), maybe that could be tolerable? lol
IFPE is the psychoanalytic conference I'm finding myself most drawn to; and, I'll never not hate that they hold it in October, for reasons. 🫠
I've started buying sunflowers or dahlias at TJs... best $6-7 of my week!

Me: "I just think it would be better if I didn't have any big feelings about you being away for a session or two, that's all." GVD: "Yes, I'm aware parts of you would prefer they didn't have any feelings whatsoever."
Great comment in a post about generalist vs specialist (or, "niching down") therapists
🧡💜 Mon, Sep 28 Yesterday: T36A1s + T137s found Indy in Carr Inlet & traveled about South Puget Sound together ending their day in Case Inlet. Likely still inland this morn. 📷 Have wanted to share this sublime image since Aug: T077s in Puget Sound under Mt Baker. By Hongming Zheng 8/23. #psws
Also: be the guy who doesn’t tolerate this shit. The men around you should know you’ll call the police.
Dear men and boys, If your friends tell you they're gang raping someone, call the fucking police. Post Anything Here: InteractInk.com
I think this blog post is correct: a tendency to read idfic structures into reality is very damaging to people and it would help people, a lot, to acquire the skills to better understand how fictional enjoyment of something is very distinct from real yearning. aquarusa.wordpress.com/2026/09/28/t...
The Id Unexamined
What do romance novels, isekai stories, video games, and right-wing theories of white replacement all have in common? They are all examples to some degree of id fiction — a kind of fiction th…

Please try to reclaim your precious precious attention, at all costs. Do puzzles. Take walks without a phone. Dear god, try to read, almost anything that isn’t a manifesto will really do. You are going to need your brain.
I was put into foster care at 18 months and adopted at 3 years... if I'd been just a little bit older or just a little younger, my entire fucking life c/would've been so different. Kinda a mindfuck to sit with.
For me, it's been such a surreal experience of forgetting/remembering I've known I experience dissociation since my early 20s after an assault, while only in the past year or so have I been able to piece together with GVD that it's likely always been my experience of myself/the world around me.
Look, I know this is psychoanalytic as fuck but, "seems we're all wishing for a different, better past?" really is the crux of it, really. A bitter truth of adulthood: none of us makes it out of childhood/adolescence unscathed.
(This is perhaps too much of a tangent so feel free to tell me to stfu and I'll delete–) Having almost certainly been misdxed with and inappropriately medicated for ADHD as a kid, I read these articles so differently than most do. Seems we're all wishing for a different, better past?
There's a way in which this sums up so much of my annoyance with social media Discourse™, haha
Yep, exactly. And the meanings of dx and tx (whether meds or therapy) shift between childhood, adolescence, and the adult years. Adults looking back on childhood/adolescence with their adult brains isn't quite the same as real-time childhood and adolescent experience
Children in foster care (as well as many adoptees) are routinely medicated with antipsychotics and antidepressants, often more for behavioral compliance than sx management of a legitimate diagnosis. Meds are cheaper for the state than the long-term therapy these kids actually need.
It is! It's well-known that children in foster care and adoptees have higher rates of ADHD, and the explanations are all but eugenicist in nature (obvi it's our own fault we end up in other people's care) and I'm over here like. Have we even bothered to control for misdx yet??? lolsob
Casually looking at craiglist listings again, and, lol, lmao, dude's still looking for a subletter. Maybe... don't charge $100+ over the going rate but wtf do I know
I don't think I posted about this when it happened but a couple weeks ago I met up with this guy over the possiblity of subletting his office. Got weird vibes and ultimately backed out- thank god. Just saw he's advertising the spot at an even higher rate than what he'd tried to push me into, 😳
