You there! Yes, you! Are you an actor or performer, or do you teach drama, theatre, or acting? I want to hear from you for my new project that's all about *care* in relation to performer training. Details in the slides; Link is below Thank you in advance for taking part 🤗

Calling actors and theatre teachers! I'm sharing a short survey that will ask you open-ended questions about how you experienced care (or didn't) in your training, and -- if you teach -- how you show care for your students now. Scholar Virginia Held says that “Care is both a value and practice” (2006, 9). In the training of actors, particularly in conservatoire and other intensive environments, theories and practices of care have evolved rapidly over the past twenty years. At the same time, however, the physical and psychological demands on performers of classical texts such as Shakespeare’s have remained high. Educators of actors may now find themselves having to re-examine the embodied knowledge built up from their own training and professional experiences, in order to care more effectively for students as they build the literal and metaphorical musculature required of a classical performer. Trainee actors still depend very much on the relational communities of care in which they train, rehearse and perform, while at the same time being encouraged to envision themselves as a highly individualised neoliberal product.About the Project (continued) “Embodied Archives and Communities of Care…” therefore considers the extent to which care is a key component of actor training, and the ways that definitions of ‘care’ in relation to the classical performer have shifted over the past two decades. Through this project, I aim to explore the extent to which communities of care constitute an embodied archive; how replication and innovation interact in the enactment of care; and how definitions of “care” in a training context shift and evolve over time. Here's where you come in! I'll be so grateful if you take a few minutes to complete the survey. At the end of the survey is an invitation to volunteer for a more in-depth interview, if you're open to it. When I write up this research, all responses from both the survey and the interviews will be anonymised. If you're able and willing, I would be thrilled to have your responses as part of the research. I would be equally grateful if you could please share the survey link with anyone else in your network who may be interested in taking part. The survey will be open until the end of January 2027.

The horrific story coming out of Cornell this week takes me right back to the events that catalysed Canonical Misogyny in 2015. I wish the story wasn't so familiar. I wish I believed that this would be the last time.

UK researchers, DSIT's survey on AI in research is now live. 'The survey is designed to capture insights across the full research life cycle, encompassing all disciplines and career stages, as well as covering multiple categories of AI.' Deadline for completion is 4 September 2026.

The HPV vaccine is durably AMAZING.A massive Swedish registry study w 18 years of follow-up found no waning protection against invasive cervical cancer. If vaccinated before age 17, cancer risk is cut by ~80%. Even those vaccinated later still had substantial protection. www.bmj.com/content/392/...

Unflinching refusal to use or allow the use of A.I. in reading & writing should be the uncontroversial, default position of teachers from K-12 to colleges & universities. If our administrators tell us we "have to" we tell them to eff off. We will not kill the planet's water for systemic plagiarism.
