I've talked to people on the ground about the strike here tomorrow, and the single thing everyone brings up is just how shockingly wide the support for the strike is. Businesses that no one would have expected to support it are doing so.

Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.
if i could give one broad direction to people: stop being afraid of doing something. take some initiative. find a group near you. pick up the boxes that need hauling. bring food. take out the trash. see a need that is unmet? get some friends together and do the thing. organize your niche.

Y'all who keep lecturing protesters to "not give them an excuse" need to pause for a minute. Imagine yourself telling a DV victim, "Be sure not to mouth off or make any mistakes so he won't hit you. Don't give him an excuse! It's what he wants!" That's what you fools sound like.

One of the greatest slogans of the 2011-13 wave was a handheld sign in Tahrir Square (I believe) that read "Dont Afraid!" The grammatical incongruity of that turned it into a koan, a guiding principle for me and a few friends at the time. 'Afraid' becomes the verb, something you do or do not do.

When the US began to strip trans people of rights, revert documentation, move trans women to men's prisons, censor research, and move towards healthcare bans, most cis people posted things like "the government can't tell you who you are!" They think our biggest issue is validation, not actual harm.

Just sit with this for a moment. Israel perpetrated what is certainly the largest single mass killing of trans people in history. And it's basically a footnote in an article in the NYT covered weeks after it happened.
