reaching out for assistance with my back against the wall from the expenses incurred while helping my parents. Thank you for being patient and kind as I continue to get my life together.

clickbait should be reputation ruining. If you can't get people to read your article without deliberately frothing them up into a rage AND you made money off it? total scum bag behavior.
What can you do? CALL. WRITE. SCREAM. The bill is up for a vote THIS WEDNESDAY. Call your Senator. Dem. Republican. Whomever. Right now, it's a solid R bill, but they're looking for Dems to take it across the finish line. Let them know how badly it stinks. www.defendonlineprivacy.com/screen/

the thing that bothers me the most about ai boosters is the fact they don't understand people's anger against ai. it's not about the ai. It's not just a fight against capitalists building data centers, it's an assertion of autonomy (however incoherent) and them not liking it.
ya, know it occurs to me that other websites going forward are prob going to have the problem that bsky has atm, and that is the users are HOSTILE to having it be monetized at all. I think thats good overall for the net, but leaves the problem of resources for infra.
Considering the fact nazi's tend to get mass blocked whenever they try to make inroads here, I would not worry about this place being over run with them. liberals who hate leftists? That might be an issue. There's also other app views if worst comes to worst. Please don't doom over this.
we could prob have a general sm platform if it was p2p. To participate you give up a little bandwidth like you would if you were seeding a torrent. it would def cut out the middle men and let us actually form communities online without being at the mercy of mad operators. has this been tried?
prob answering my own question, but WHY are almost all SACD's stuffy boomer pop\rock\jazz?
I just found out the bootleg copy of the Pacman Fever album my uncle gave me when I was 13 was the 1999 re-recording, not the original 1982 album. I've basically never heard the og until today AND that 1999 re-do is also rare af? 0_o What a weird piece of video game history...
every day that goes by I am SO GLAD I picked BDR's for cold storage backups instead of a NAS.
I install a program to get thumbnail previews for FLAC files on linux mint, and then it breaks MP4 thumbnails. WHYYY? Why isn't all of this just set up by default? So annoying...
happy 50th anniversary to the COSMAC ELF, designed by Joseph Weisbecker! my favorite microcomputer platform to tinker with. i’ve built many ELFs and clones over the past two years. this CPU is the first CMOS CPU, and was used in NASA’s Galileo spacecraft, as it is low-power.
My uncle had piles of comics from the comic bubble, so whenever we visted him he just gave me armloads of 70s- early 90s comics. It def made me curious about the past, and see how precarious it was when mom threw them all out. I learned to hate conservatism from an early age because of that.
If you’re a comics fan, what’s the earliest comic book you can remember reading? And what kind of impression did it make on you?
Im not one of these people who blame ai for everything sucking now, BUT, almost every search tool SUCKS ASS NOW. I pay for kagi, which uses google data. Kagi gives me results, which means google is CHOOSING to not display results right. Idk if its to force ai dependence or what but it sucks!
Online music streaming service: "We have a billion songs!" Me: "Awesome! I want to hear a song released on July 27, 1997" Online service: "No. You can't search by date" Me: "Oh, ok then I want <song title> by <artist>" Online service: "Here's 300 popular recommendations unrelated to your query"
if you have adhd, PLEASE do not offload any of your mental muscles to an llm. You WILL need them when machines and other people fail you. This is NOT a statement of nihilism, just a facet of reality we all have to deal with sometimes. And sometimes that reality has serious implications. stay sharp.
If you cannot support a legally correct argument challenging a massive government overreach that criminalizes a wide range of protected speech, just because it's made by The Worst Guy You Know and the law purports to cover an unpopular thing, you don't have principles, you have teams.
"we don't like that fact you take pillz to function so we're gonna make up a buncha shit to justify our disgust reaction" I have a friend who tried to pull the "but drugz!" on me and it took everything in me to not pull his glasses off his stupid head and snap them in front of him.
Channel 4 has announced documentary “The Great ADHD Myth?” It “seeks to determine whether ADHD is a genuine neurodevelopmental disorder, or a social construct.”
I'm going to yell at my senators to oppose KOSA of course, but I'm also downloading ID templates for an "event". I would suggest everyone else do the same.
The firestorm of age-verification laws have done almost nothing to prevent minors from accessing porn online. What they have done is give the state a powerful tool to harass speech they don't like by declaring it pornographic or "harmful to minors."
Every time I make the (correct) statement that social media use is not universally bad for teenagers, or state that the best consensus is that it's beneficial-to-neutral for many and any negative effects are a small subset of teenagers, people demand citations (and then refuse to believe them, sigh)
I'm thinking about taking this weekend to drive up to an anime shop 4hrs away. Should I? 🤔
Yes modern pc gaming is relatively easy, but pc gamers need to understand the appeal of consoles now is that they're DEDICATED HARDWARE TO PLAY GAMES. Not everyone wants to play games on the computer, drm free or not. This urge to consolidate stuff into one box takes a lotta fun outta games
We also need to teach PC players that Steam is a DRM client.
we need to teach console players that the thing they hate has a name and it's "DRM"
