Tonight!
Our next meetup is the 8th October, on our new regular night, Thursday! A relaxed meetup for those in, adjacent, or aspiring to the games industry (Cherry Reds is very near New Street Station, for those travelling in) www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/2000207773...
I've never worked with an engine build pipeline that's as temperamental as godot's. every week there's a new way to make it fail only on cold builds. failing only on cold builds is really bad for a build pipeline - you lose trust in the server and discover problems weeks later. gross.
hey friends, to celebrate #blocktober i have made a longform tutorial for ProBuilder in Unity it's a tool i've used for blockout a LOT over the last 5 years and have found other 'over the shoulder' style tutorial vids helpful myself, so maybe this will help some budding #leveldesign'er :)

This is your occasional reminder that generative "AI" in particular could have been developed on public domain materials and/or licensed and compensated works but the major players intentionally, methodically and systemically chose to steal labor from working creative folks instead
In no way do I want to pivot my career to Digital Twins, but if I did, I would simply hire an art director and a technical artist and take all the credit. Why do they all look like that?
People who think the week starts on Sunday, don’t read this: our meetup is next week! People who think the week starts on Monday, don’t read this: our meetup is this week!

I'm not a web dev but I'm starting to get why people say they can "tell a unity game" with how many vibed tailwind sites there are now.
Unlocked the amazing life hack of Slightly Cheaper GDC by booking travel and hotel early. What other benefits have Organised People been hiding from us all this time??
I normally read until I’m sleepy at bedtime. At the moment, I’m reading Hamnet, so I read until I stare at the ceiling for a bit.
Been slowly rewatching ted lasso, and s1 still slaps. I remember the s3 run is such a slog - is the new season worth it, or should I bail?
Wait Katie Dippold from the babbadook Halloween photo is the same Katie Dippold who wrote Widows Bay??
Sensible Defaults do not exist, and neither do Best Practices. New video: youtu.be/deKtxzvf92g Whenever next anyone asks me what 'Sensible Default' to use, or what the 'Best Practices' are, I will link this video. It explains my arguments, includes examples, and hopefully finally puts it to rest.

Alright, time to visit IBC, the international broadcasting convention! I am just visiting, and seeing what other industries are doing when it comes to tools. Starting off with this enormous camera crane that you can try out!
If you didn't know, maths is going through a bit of a crisis, as AI makes it "easier" to generate long complex hard-to-review proofs. Gamedev is facing similar problems, but for various reasons, it's happening in the dark in many places at once.
I think I'm a power user, in the way all tech fans think they're power users, but also: I have only ever used the smallest capacity iPhones, currently a 128GB iPhone 13 Pro. I currently have 30+GB free. What are you folks doing with your phones that you need 512! Or a terrabyte! Really, tell me!
Absolute cracker of a text to get from the wife, best day of the year
One reason England does so well is our second generation immigrants outperform their peers which is not true in most OECD countries. We are also very good at integration. And it's v sad that this is never acknowledge in debates on immigration.
New PISA data out England is now top ten in all three areas (reading, maths, science) and the second highest performing country outside of east Asia (after Estonia). This is a huge public policy success.
