This is what is driving me nuts. So many posters around here keep haw-hawing about R’s in strawberry and clearly have NO idea that these are extremely powerful machines *already* that we have not yet figured out how to utilize fully. If we stopped development today, they’d still be astonishing

Can I just say this stuff panics the shit out of me? I didn't think Artist was a career at risk, but a year ago mathematicians felt safe. I just don't understand acting like it's not happening. You have people insisting these models can't do things *in principle* they've already demonstrated.

One thing I never did was a post-mortem of Sir. Perhaps this is as good a time and place as any to talk about some of that. It started in 2010 when Channel 4 had some money to spend on making educational games. For some reason they asked me. ->thread

In surprising computer game news: Sir, You Are Being Hunted finally made it to console, just fourteen years after release on PC. It's out now on Switch, PS5, and Xbox. (And Steam and GoG, of course.)

(since Sweeny is talking about using AI to make the flowerpot) if it's genuinely not important, get the flowerpot off an asset store? why spend expensive tokens on it?? why is it only two options between "spend $1m on one flowerpot" vs "outsource everything to AI"????

Rami Ismail (رامي)@ramiismail.com · last mo.

Tim, with all due respect, but what the fuck are you talking about? I'll come make some 3D flower pots at a 50% discount from your usual rate.

Tim Sweeney quoted in gamesradar.com

He refers to an example of making a flower pot model for a game. "The value is not in creating a perfect flower pot. It will be an absolute folly to spend a million dollars creating a flower pot, because the real value is in building the scene and building the game and building the narrative, and the gameplay, and making it awesome, and giving it a unique feel, and making something that appeals to gamers."
