Productive Outs

Two musicians who love the basedballs. We had bad podcast before everyone on Earth had a bad podcast. Artisanal namecrafters since 2011. Extremely serious.
This episode is long. It’s also very, very good. I want to grab a transcript of the “The Dodgers Are Ruining Baseball” segment and post it everywhere. Essential listening.
It's ready: Four hours of deadline deal analysis by @cdgoldstein.baseballprospectus.com, @jeffreypaternostro.bsky.social, and myself. We laugh, we yell, we stop occasionally to get coffee. www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article...
SOURCE: The Chicago Cubs have designated right-hander Chutney Motherpants for assignment.
Still trying to wrap my head around how disorienting it was to watch The Actual Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have a functional/competent trade deadline.
me trying to say "kendrys morales" while i'm on the wolf of wall street quaaludes
Doubly insane that they failed to do this, and then failed to even pony up for Reid Detmers … who is really good, actually.
Wrote about how dumb is was for the Brewers to not outbid the Dodgers for Tarik Skubal: open.substack.com/pub/mollykni...
SOURCE: The Milwaukee Brewers acquire outfielder Twain Garbagesport from the Los Angeles Angels for Broth Fourthflavor.
The only creative industry that is inarguably both doing well and doing great work right now is "new baseball guy names."
Jhomnardo Reyes is going to the Orioles for Dean Kremer, per source.
SOURCE: The New York Yankees are acquiring left-hander Marlboro Jesus from the Seattle Mariners. @bnightengale.bsky.social had it first.
Really hoping the Angels move Zach Neto today. If they don’t move him, his attitude riding this ghost ship of a team to 100 losses is going to be incredible to watch. And by incredible I mean infuriating.
I know that’s a lotta control, but that’s an awfully solid package for a dude who’s been pretty inconsistent.
Per a source, the Cubs are trading Moises Ballesteros and Mason McGwire to the Angels for bat-missing reliever Ryan Zeferjahn, who is under control through 2030.
*unless you live here and have been subjected to their bullshit for decades
trade deadline is the only day of the season you need to remember the los angeles angels are a real baseball team that somehow plays 162 games a season just like everyone else
And you can’t blame the Tigers for wanting to get value back for a guy who almost certainly wouldn’t sign there when he becomes a FA, but the reason he almost certainly wouldn’t sign there is because they threw an offensive figure at him in arbitration last winter. That’s not the Dodgers fault.
What bugs me about Dodger Discourse is that it shifts the focus off of genuine malfeasance by other teams. The Tigers just quasi-quit on a playoff race that they're very much still in! Who did that to their fans? It wasn't Boras, Manfred, or the LAD
FUN FACT: Red Sox broadcaster Loomer Loney is the brother of former Dodgers first baseman James.
SOURCE: The Yankees are not including outfield prospect Hubris Velarde in the Garcia deal.
Those of you eager to serve wealthy MLB owners as volunteer Pinkertons won’t like to read this, but as usual Joe Sheehan nails the real problem:
The Miz could very well strike out 20 Angels today.
Saddened to report we are in no way responsible for the name Gary Gill Hill.
@Ken_Rosenthal tweeted Source confirms return: Aidan Smith, Emilie Pitre and Gary Gill Hill. First on those names: @Feinsand 💬 @WillSammon The Rays are acquiring starting pitcher Freddy Peralta in a trade with the New York Mets, league sources tell The Athletic.
Hearing that the Tarik Skubal trade is now official. More on this as it develops.
The St Louis Cardinals 2026 Opening Day payroll: $ 99,274,269 (24) The St Louis Cardinals 2008 Opening Day payroll: $ 99,624,449 (12) How could the Dodgers do this?!?
If you read anything about the Skubal deal today, make it this. It’s so damn good.
For the night owls: I've written up the transaction analysis for the Skubal trade at @baseballprospectus.com, with the help of @jeffreypaternostro.bsky.social on the prospect side. It's free to read with a basic sub, but as a summary: It's a bummer, but not for the reason you might think.
