I don't think the Moist von Lipwig books are the *best* Discworlds, but they're the ones I go to when my brain is bad and I need something to read. Raising Steam is the weakest, but I have a lot of affection for the "cramming it all in whole I can" Pratchett writing. Going Postal is 10/10 though.

I'm telling you all, I believe we can achieve social democracy by asking the American people "well what the hell are we paying them for?"
One important way of doing this is going to be shrinking our global military footprint in a big way. Which brings me to my proposal: end CENTCOM's entire presence within the first 100 days.
It’s so cool how nobody in the press bothers asking the President of the United States to explain what he means by “transgender for everyone” because they think him being an insane bigot is just a bit of flair
Everybody thinks 'https://' stands for 'hypertext transfer protocol secure' but it actually stands for 'head to this place, sucka' followed by a colon and two laser sounds
Epic sunset right now as seen from the remnant prairie alongside Rte. 83 in Hinsdale
BrooklynVegan, Alt Press, et al being unceremoniously shut down by a company owned by the guys from Good Charlotte that’s also owned by Live Nation is a plot that would happen in a direct to video sequel to Richie Rich.
it is in fact the natural order of things for college students to get combative and out over their skis when they learn their first non 'default starter pack' idea - it is a transhistorical fact that young adults are super fucking annoying about this sort of thing
All the data points to the evergreen sign:
🧵 NEW POST: Edmonton’s $15M infill property tax dividend Matching permits to assessment data shows that small-scale infill from just 2024-26 will grow the tax base by $1.8B, and revenues by $15M. That's equivalent to a 0.7% property tax rate increase! #yegcc www.jacobdawang.com/blog/2026/pr...

Gives me an opportunity for one of my bugbears: take money from the cops and give it to government IT. As someone who has encountered systems about this old, it is not uncommon in state and local government.
This is not a joke. This is a screenshot of the actual case management software used by Massachusetts' 11 District Attorneys. Must-read work here by @nasser.wiki nasser.blog/dial-up-just...
You should 100% block anyone who posts like this. Can't see what it was a reply to, but you should also block anyone who prompts a reply like this.
I am not a serious person. I am incredibly silly. I have spent 20 minutes arguing with people who I am fully aware will never see sense. But everything i say is true. And that annoys you.
a visa overstayer from Chad who wants to be an American is more American than anyone who puts on the ICE mask
“Based on its extraordinary success in slashing overstays from bonded countries to near zero, the State Department has made the Visa Bond Program permanent,” a State Department spokesperson told Semafor.

And the 5th & 6th Amendments. All of them exist to ensure the government can't intimidate & coerce a criminal case into existence just because it doesn't like you.
I think this deserves a chat about the meaning and purpose of the Fourth Amendment.
Tolkien was a philologist who hung out with nerds who had PTSD from the trenches and a bunch of Lord Dunsany rattling around in their skulls. Jackson made horror movies and films about dark happenings in New Zealand. It's an incredible work of adaptation.
Anyway, I've been enjoying the classic sick day activity of watching the LOTR trilogy. It's my first time since finishing my (years long, first in decades) read of the books, and it's fascinating to watch it relatively fresh.
So, here's where the highlighted link in the screen cap goes: themedialine.org/mideast-dail... It's possible that I missed something but it does not seem to say what that sentence implies.
responsiblestatecraft.org/morocco-spai... The quincy institute is getting in on the ‘people are saying the Jews did it’ bandwagon. But don’t worry, they are just asking questions.

this is legitimately a huge problem that i don’t know how they will resolve, either from an executive or legislative standpoint, and it’s going to be the case across a lot more than just defense
I fundamentally do not know how to square the politics whereby Democrats will essentially have to tell the American people that because they (the voters) made an extremely stupid decision, they need to lower their expectations substantially for the foreseeable future, but here we are.

I've been sick, so haven't been on here even at my lower rate. My apologies to everyone bereft of my insights. It is like walking into an opera at intermission, though. I don't understand half of what you guys are talking about.
Fun fact: CPS has a principal's union.
In a letter to Chicago's deputy mayor of labor relations, a union attorney asked the city to “voluntarily recognize” a collective bargaining unit of commanders and deputy chiefs, pointing to an executive order Mayor Johnson signed.
Cincinnati has developed a Climate Migration Readiness Plan to absorb as many as 525,000 newcomers by 2050. It calls for building much denser housing, expanding public transit and decreasing the city’s reliance on fossil fuels.

Smiling serenely as I imagine someone reading the AF wrong and scrolling the thread going "why the fuck are all these random ass stories about airplanes?"
One like one random AF story

I understand the impulse to campaign with this guy because he has a ton of pull with young people most likely to be engaged on the left. It's an apparently huge opportunity. But it's playing with fire, no less than Gavin Newsom with Charlie Kirk.
This guy has anti-Semitic brain worms (among many other species of brain worm) and he needs to be treated as radioactive by every Democrat.
