Bro that isn't real AI, that's just *massive search* over an *action space* using *learned heuristics.* If they hadn't given it any one of those three it wouldn't have done what it did.
This entire thread is an amazing case study in both LLM psychology and recklessly evaluation setups.
Colin@colin-fraser.net · 2w agoIt appears to me that the scenario they invented for this evaluation is explicitly designed to get it to do exactly this. They remove the instructions for the task to "protect the vendor" or something but it's pretty easy to reconstruct from the text.

Answering longstanding mathematical conjectures is great, but today, I used Claude for something much harder: resizing a box in Adobe InDesign.
What I have learned from attempting this game is that my posts are not very good. Which I kinda knew. But now the AIs confirm it. Thanks, AI. (No examples shown because, really, so very mediocre.)

I believe super intelligent AI reduces the probability of human extinction and other catastrophic events. (I don’t have anything too scientific to base that on… I could come up with arguments, but they might just be rationalizing a gut feeling, same as everyone else.)

Interesting study. There is, as everyone expected, a flood of AI books. And it is crowding out human authors: "No-AI books, on their own, earn less per book than they did in 2023 in 7 of 8 genres. The one genre where human authors are doing better (+35%) is Fantasy/horror" arxiv.org/pdf/2607.20349
