See me outside our half Quonset hut, (Soundview, Bronx, 1947) Nihil nisi tenebris.

Watergate was a harmless prank, in terms of the scale of illegality & constitutional violations, compared to this. Again, this is the most basic "do we live under a functioning constitutional order?" type of stuff. The answer, sadly, is no, because this hasn't immediately ended his presidency.

"The Trump administration admitted that it terminated nearly 300 federal research grants 'solely because' the projects were connected to states that voted against Donald Trump in 2024 and had two Democratic senators in office, according to court filings." www.nbcnews.com/politics/tru...

This is the first passage of Maggie and Swan's book. Consider the agency it sets up. Democrats. Partisanship. Why not focus on the "irony" that Maggie had done propaganda for the man for years? Why make this about Democrats, rather than her complicity?

THe opening passage of Haberman and Swan's book. it focuses on Democrats.

60 Democrats with whom I only agree like 75-80% of the time is worth way, way, way more to me than 49 Democrats I agree with 100% of the time. And I feel that way about basically every issue. And honestly, if you don’t agree, I really am not sure you understand how all of this actually works.

It's been over a year & a half, & Ezra Douthglesias & the Dem polling class are still pretending the story about 2024 wasn't primarily "Harris/The Dems outperformed every incumbent party in the world in a structurally terrible year given inflation & maps" & honestly, it's exhausting & unserious.

Haven’t read the leaked “autopsy” yet, but unless it starts & ends with “Democrats over-performed every other incumbent party in the democratic world, after having the best midterm performance in 2022 of any party since WWII, & they would have won the House absent late-inning gerrymandering,” then 🤷‍♂️

It’s completely nuts that Trump won by less than 2M votes with near universal media help and worldwide rage at incumbents and the media treated this like a permanent sea change towards MAGA and now less than 2 years later he’s the least popular President in history and there’s no media reckoning

I mean, there's all kinds of things Democrats Must Do if they win in 2026/28 👇, but they are all about <institutional reform> to make 🇺🇸 a real democracy & insulate ourselves against authoritarianism. I like Ben Wikler & sure to most of this, but it's like 4th-order compared to the real Must Do stuff

- DC/PR/USVI statehood - Enlarging the House - MMDs - New VRA - Totally revamping SCOTUS: bsky.app/profile/mcop... - Automatic universal voter registration - Rewriting <all> the "national emergency" laws: bsky.app/profile/mcop... - Subordinating the Senate: bsky.app/profile/mcop... Etc.

It's noteworthy that the sticking point in getting Todd Blanche confirmed as AG involves financial corruption rather than Blanche refusing to release files about the sex trafficking of children by Trump's former friend. To Republicans, money is always more important than the welfare of children.

at one point, Republican elites viewed Fox News as useful for riling up the masses, but now we have a generation of elected officials who have been raised on it and are incapable of viewing it as right wing entertainment and instead view it as factual.

👇🎯 Again, this is what both political parties & societal institutions like the media need to to do in a functioning democratic polity, & we’re not going to get anywhere by continuing to allow the far right authoritarian party to set new terms of what is acceptable behavior in politics & society.

this sounds elitist but our recovery from the present moment will depend in part on being able to once again effectively malign, ostracize, and refuse a platform to cranks
