Saltmarsh Plume (Agdistis bennetii) @flamboroughbird.bsky.social VC61 yesterday. Very few records away from the Spurn area in Yorkshire although there have been a few inland also in the last few days. @bcyorkshire.bsky.social #teammoth @doublekidney.bsky.social

Yorkshire macro moth recorder and retired GP.
Some nice moths from Upper Teesdale near High Force this weekend, including Chestnut-coloured Carpet, Juniper Pug and Anomalous. A rather under-recorded area. Chestnut-coloured Carpet was last recorded there in 1880! Good to know it is still thriving.
More interesting moths in the last few nights, including Bordered Straw (on lavender), Pyrausta despicata (new for garden), Nephopterix angustella, a third Dewick's Plusia (on lavender) and three Small Mottled Willow. #teammoth #YorkshireMoths @doublekidney.bsky.social @migrantmothuk.bsky.social
Caloptilia semifascia from the garden trap last night is new for VC65.
Great haul in my Romanby VC62 garden despite the thunderstorms (trap under cover). 38 species including two new for the garden: V-moth and the tiny Lesser Tawny Crescent. According to Yorkshire Moths website this is the second most northerly record of the latter. @doublekidney.bsky.social
We trapped Reddish Light Arches at Walton near Boston Spa last night. This is the first VC64 record since 1965,
Privet Hawk-moth has been expanding its range slowly across Yorkshire, and has at last reached VC65. This was in the garden trap this morning.
Cochylidia rupicola in the garden trap this morning is the second for Yorkshire and the first for VC65. What a lovely creature!
Very in moth trap this morning so delighted to find a Ni moth on first egg box at Swinefleet VC63 #Yorkshiremoths @doublekidney.bsky.social @celastrina59.bsky.social @migrantmothuk.bsky.social
Eastern bordered straw trapped overnight at Swinefleet VC63 other migrants 10 silver y, white point and 2 rush veneers. Also only my second purple bar @migrantmothuk.bsky.social
A miracle has occurred in my garden. After making a complete hash of potting a Ni Moth in the morning, I netted what was surely the same individual nectaring on red valerian last night. Off to buy a lottery ticket now. #teammoth #YorkshireMoths @doublekidney.bsky.social @migrantmothuk.bsky.social
Great to have this fabulous publication land on the doormat this morning - and just after a Hummingbird Hawk-moth flew past me in the garden #teammoth @bcyorkshire.bsky.social
The sawfly Parna apicalis on small-leaved lime at Hackfall Woods is the first definite record for Yorkshire. Thanks to @suillia.bsky.social for the confirmation.
Cydia strobilella emerged from cones of Norway spruce I collected nine days ago, just north of Masham. The first record for VC65 and the sixth for Yorkshire. Probaby under-recorded.
112,000 Yorkshire Moth records submitted so far. If you haven't sent yours in, please can we have them before I get too involved in the festive season!
A handful of migrants the last couple of days included Pearly Underwing, Angle Shades, Vestal and several diamond Back moth plus last night this rather late, particularly for Yorkshire, Bordered Straw. Driffield, East Yorkshire VC61. #teammoth @migrantmothuk.bsky.social @doublekidney.bsky.social
Some opportunistic leafminering on a family day out produced plenty of species, including Bucculatrix albedinella (elm), Coleophora albitarsella (ground-ivy), Stigmella catharticella (purging buckthorn) and Ectoedemia intimella (sallow). #TeamMoth #YorkshireMoths @doublekidney.bsky.social
Diurnea lipsiella in the garden trap this morning is the first record for VC65. I have now had more species in the garden this year than in any previous year, having just pipped the record total in 2022.
The Coleophora sp. larval cases I found on sea purselane by the Humber Estuary last October turned out to be C. salinella! Only recorded in Yorkshire for the first time in August last year (I suspect it's been there a while though). #TeamMoth #YorkshireMoths @doublekidney.bsky.social
Clancy's Rustic from the garden, Driffield, East Yorkshire VC61. Still rare in Yorkshire but increasing records. Migrant or wandering colonist? #teammoth @migrantmothuk.bsky.social @doublekidney.bsky.social
A great day leafminering with @doublekidney.bsky.social and Ian Marshall, with 81 species recorded. Stigmella tiliae (first VC 61 record; only taken about 10 years!), Coleophora lusciniaepennella, C. anatipennella, C. gryphipennella and C. potentillae were highlights. #TeamMoth #YorkshireMoths
One of the world's smallest moths found on Hatfield Moors SSSI Doncaster Naturalists' Society fungus foray delivers Enteucha acetosae for a delighted @yorkshireeden.bsky.social Thought to be Yorkshire's first record of this species @andydnunn.bsky.social @doublekidney.bsky.social #TeamMoth
It's still an interesting time for moth trapping in the #LDV with two new species recorded this week – Scarce Bordered Straw and Four-spotted Footman (both migrants and new for the reserve). Also nice to see Merveille du Jour with five trapped over recent days 🦋
Euchromius ocellea (Silver-spotted Veneer) from Flamborough Head, East Yorkshire VC61 yesterday. A smart looking micro and a rare migrant moth in Yorkshire. New to Flamborough. @flamboroughbird.bsky.social @doublekidney.bsky.social #teammoth @migrantmothuk.bsky.social
Plenty of #leafmines on a black poplar at work today, with the three main species that occur in Yorkshire (Phyllocnistis unipunctella, Stigmella trimaculella, Gypsonoma oppressana) very easy to find, including all three on one leaf (last photo). #TeamMoth #YorkshireMoths @doublekidney.bsky.social
Moth numbers and variety way down last night. But any day with one of these is a good day. My fifth in the last three weeks in the garden, Driffield, East Yorkshire VC61. #teammoth @doublekidney.bsky.social
Two Epinotias among last night’s 20 spp (7/9 VC61): ramella is common and widespread; trigonella a local and apparently retreating birch roller - this one was first 10k sq record #teammoth @bcyorkshire.bsky.social @doublekidney.bsky.social
The good run of migrant moths (for my East Yorkshire/VC 61 garden) continues, the highlight being a male Four-spotted Footman! Also a second Nephopterix angustella, Rusty-dot Pearl, Humming-bird Hawk-moth, etc. #teammoth #YorkshireMoths @migrantmothuk.bsky.social @doublekidney.bsky.social
