You can/should read Emily Wilson's latest take on the Odyssey, but I'm logging on to convey my hairdresser's reaction. She was AGHAST that Nolan, with his million $ budget, gave Matt Damon ONLY 6 hair extensions. As a result, his hair did not blow around properly, & that ruined the film for her.

Editor's note: The booksellers tell us that they do not sell as many books as they once did. Is this situation a result of the increased costs of printing or a result of decreased interest in reading? Are more people substituting picture magazines and comic books for more intensive reading for self-improvement and entertainment? We don't profess to know the whole answer. Neither does the author. But he generalizes on the reading by high-school and college students and his comments are incisive. He is a teacher of English in the high school at Henryetta, Oklahoma.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

Update: Google just sent me a statement saying it is “rolling back” this AI feature that let anyone make completely bullshit satellite images. Comes after our demos of the tool and those from OSINT researchers. One of the worst AI tools I’ve ever seen bsky.app/profile/jose...

A federal bill would strip school funding for any material that "involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism." House version cleared committee in March. Senate companion is in HELP now. The ALA calls it "dangerously broad." Texas wrote this playbook. Congress is reading from it.
