Whoa, over a quarter million people (so far!) have left a comment on the egrgious openly fascist takeover attempt of the OMB. You can too! @standupforscience.net has instructions and everything you need. It's not hard, and it's critically important to science. fight2win.standupforscience.net

I'm looking to hire a research technician/lab manager. This role is ideal for someone looking to gain experience and independence after undergraduate research on their way to graduate school. Please encourage anyone interested to apply: hr.myu.umn.edu/jobs/ext/374... (job code 374183)
Careers
The Fraser Lab at the University of Minnesota (https://fraserlab.psych.umn.edu/) is recruiting a full-time research technician to support the lab. As a part of the Department of Psychology we are involved in the greater neuroscience research community at the University of Minnesota which provides excellent access to training and professional development. The Fraser Lab is interested in the neurobiological basis of motivated behavior and investigates how defined brain circuits contribute to behavioral regulation. We make use of modern neuroscience approaches to record and manipulate neural activity in real-time as rodents perform complex behavioral tasks to relate precise aspects of neural activity to well-defined psychological processes. To do so, we regularly use optogenetics, chemogenetics, calcium imaging, biosensors, pharmacology, and immunohistochemistry. Our ultimate goal is to decipher the neural mechanisms regulating behavior and to characterize how these are altered in psychiatric illness, such as addiction, or by differences in lived experience, such as after early life adversity, to potentially identify novel therapeutics. We seek a team member who can play a lead role in lab operations, collaborate closely with the PI, and engage in team-building and growth.Duties:Laboratory logistics, maintenance and operations (30%):

tl;dr: NIH is running at about 60% of pre-Trump levels and NSF is running at about 20% of pre-Trump levels of funding-outlays (some directorates far below even that). Utterly catastrophic. An unforced disaster for U.S. society, and the world
For #NSF and #NIH watchers, Grant Witness now has interactive data on numbers of grants and total funding obligations, broken down by institute and directorate, new awards and non-competitive renewals. The stranglehold on new awards is still a disaster. grant-witness.us/funding_curv...

just to be clear, everyone, when 8 pm EDT comes and goes, regardless of what does or does not happen, the president still threatened genocide and war crimes and we should still impeach, arrest, and try him

BREAKING: The Oregon Health & Science University board of directors has voted to begin negotiations with the NIH about potentially transitioning the university’s primate research center to a sanctuary for the animals. By @callimcflurry.bsky.social #neuroskyence bit.ly/4a6mycK
There's a special place in hell for people who benefit daily from state of the art medical treatment and then argue that the means to discover the next state of the art treatment should be eliminated.
NIH and some outside interest groups are trying to force the closing of the Oregon National Primate Research Center, and it looks like they might win. This would be a huge blow for translational research. www.politico.com/news/2026/02...

First they came for DEI and I said nothing for I hoped my success rates would improve. Then they came for gender identity research and I said nothing for I hoped my success rates would improve. Then they came for the NPRCs, and I said nothing for I hoped my success rates would improve.
And let that include calling your senators again. Don’t give them a moment of peace until we get a moment of peace in Minneapolis. Anyone who votes to fund ICE has blood on their hands—no matter how they rationalize it. Make sure they know.
Heard from a friend in Atlanta that several ICE vehicles were spotted near Emory University the past few days. Passing that word along to who needs it.

JFC, Atlantic Monthly. Michelle Obama wanted kids to eat healthy and exercise. She wasn't bent on destroying our federal health agencies.

As famine plagues Gaza, NPR exclusive reporting looks at the U.S. role in the humanitarian crisis. Many former officials NPR interviewed share a common refrain: Did we do enough to prevent this?
They don't need prayers. They were literally in church. What they need are laws that prevent this kind of senseless yet quotidian violence. And you know, this Ted.
