All else aside there is nothing I want or need genAI to do for me. I like reading. I like doing research. I like playing around in spreadsheets. I like interviewing people. I like writing. I like doing these things for myself because I take pleasure in the doing and they make me a better thinker.

Pretty interesting how, if the university didn’t pay you on time, it takes weeeeeeks before you see that money. But if they overpay you they sure as hell take that money back right quick.

i don’t want “accelerated”, “increased-speed” or “fast-paced” research. in fact, am not interested in any shortcuts to mindful, intentional, and slow science

I have been waiting on peer review of an article for 8 months now. I have reached put to the editor twice and they say they will reach out to the peer reviewer. And I get it peer reviewing isn’t paid labor (we should fix that!), but I had the summer to work on potential revisions and now… oh well

Sad to hear of the passing of the remarkable scholar Johanna Fernández. Dr. Fernández was committed to sharing important history inside and outside the academy. Her work as Lead Scholar on Hidden Voices: Latines in US History ensured Latinx history will be available to K-12 students everywhere.

No, a degree is not only about making money and it's sad but predictable that this is where we're at. Things which are not money have value. Yes. Imagine that...But given the cost of a degree (which is a real problem), it's no wonder shit like this gets asked. #HigherEd #Teaching

If an undergraduate program's graduates don't earn more than workers who never went to college, that program could be cut off from federal student loans. But is a degree just about making more money?

This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.

Normally wouldn’t root for Argentina. I do love an underdog and that they are not. But they’re my late friend Andrea’s team so I have to. Plus what other choice do I have? A colonizer? Fuck no.
