In which, on the 4th of July, I go through Hannah Arendt's amazing analysis of "the pursuit of happiness" and ask what we can learn. Short answer: the revolution will not be televised, because it's mostly the unglamorous, unheroic work of "public happiness", of learning to live well together.

In Labor's mind 'patriotism' is handing over billions in public funds, defence & foreign policy to the US. And being 'progressive' is gutting funding for people with a disability and veterans healthcare to pay for it. If this is 'Labor Left' god knows what Labor right is up to.
