I think a big difference is that almost everyone involved with NFTs was fully aware it was a scam and were just looking for more suckers so they could cash out, while most frontline AI proponents seem to be true believers.

One thing that's distinctly different between the NFT and AI spheres, is how the NFT space was filled with smugness, smarm, and forced comradery, but the AI space is filled with desperation, loneliness, and a sense that everybody in it feels somehow degraded.

There is something off about this NYT photo on AI development that I can't quite put my finger on.

Not even errors, more a statistical certainty. 'Error' implies a fault that can be fixed. All the LLM builders can do is try to hone them so that the output produces stuff that _happens to be correct_ more of the time. It's correlation not causation.

One of the most interesting things about this AI stuff is it has helped me learn a lot of people take language other people use much more literally than I realised. Very surprised most people don't immediately think hallucination? I think you mean 'error'.
