1. A reminder that if you do believe that the Covid-19 pandemic occurred as a result of accidental release from a laboratory, then you're also tacitly acknowledging that said pandemic is an unprecedented event caused by an unprecedented pathogen.

If we care about disability justice, one of the lowest-hanging fruits is masks in healthcare. It remains unacceptable that vulnerable patients must ask, sometimes beg, healthcare workers to mask, while also explaining to them why respirator masks are better

This is the same error as the "widespread failure" driving assumptions and policies that "were and are wrong" that the UK COVID Inquiry just highlighted. If that screwup magically didn't kill anyone, it lets him off the hook for his involvement. Huge commitment bias right from the start.

Module 3 of the UK COVID Inquiry is out. Encouraging to see explicit recognition of the "widespread failure" of clinical leaders to understand aerosol science, and the "clear failure" of IPC leaders to understand that they might be wrong. #medsky #scisky covid19.public-inquiry.uk/reports/modu....

🧵: Even a brief examination of this article highlights a number of issues that the @uk.theconversation.com should address. The lead author has an *immense* undisclosed COI to deny aerosol mitigations are effective, due to his role in the "very big mistake" that wasted "an enormous number of lives".

Be careful what you wish for. These screenshots are from the WHO's official Twitter account in 2020, and a 2022 interview with the man who is currently the Associate Director General of the WHO (and previously its Chief Scientist). Even now there have been no consequences - or even investigations.

Tweet posted by WHO March 28th, 2020, falsely claiming not only that COVID was not airborne, but that it was known not to be airborne with such certainty that they labelled the factually correct claim that COVID is airborne as misinformation.

World Health Organization (WHO)
@WHO
FACT: #COVID19 is NOT airborne.

The #coronavirus is mainly transmitted through droplets generated when an infected person coughs, sneezes or speaks.

To protect yourself:
-keep 1m distance from others
-disinfect surfaces frequently
-wash/rub your 👐
-avoid touching your 👀👃👄

The wildfires in Ontario have turned the air poison. These AQI values are a risk to everyone, not just the “vulnerable” The eugenicist mindset of leaving high risk people by the wayside is why we don’t have clean indoor air or better mitigations Disability justice saves lives

Unlike viruses, forest fire smoke is visible, smelly, & burns throats & eyes. The fella doing garbage collection today was grateful for the N95s I offered. We can’t know who will/won’t take up the offer, but please don’t hesitate to offer up some kindness to others if you have extra masks.

Ontarians…please wear N95 if you must be outdoors. Turn on your HEPAs if you’ve got ‘em. Our most vulnerable, especially unhoused individuals, are at very high risk…hoping health units & city officials are handing out N95s on streets. This is the worst our (as in, outside my home) has ever been:

"Teaching is one of the most vulnerable jobs for COVID and Long COVID... Considering that many workers in these buildings are precarious, racialized, and women, this is also a story of governments failing their historic duties to equitably protect people." www.thespec.com/opinion/cont...

It’s no surprise more workers and students are calling in sick

Countries are witnessing record sick leave as Long COVID affects millions, leading to renewed discussions on workplace safety and workers’ rights.

“irresponsible to dismiss the rising rates of some conditions as being caused by population aging, former pandemic measures, or lifestyle choices without considering the impact of viral illnesses such as COVID-19 and Influenza, which can be prevented through multi-disciplinary layered approaches.”
