"credible accusations of both catboy and golden retriever boyfriend". music, art, other nonsense very big fan of xenoblade. located in sf, ca. i studied game audio in college. ex-roblox. currently a full-time code janitor and devtools builder

i was workshopping a joke about romantasy, so i idly went to the wikipedia page and scrolled to "notable examples." under literature, there's twilight and acotar. films, there's princess bride, beauty and the beast. and the single video game listed, the one, is xenogears? xenogears ? xenogears ??

On this day 15 years ago, we launched our first game, Bastion. To everyone who helped the Kid survive the Calamity, thank you!!🙏 You're the reason we've been able to carry on as an independent studio ever since.

Proper story's supposed to start at the beginning. Ain't so simple with this one.

Obviously a kindle is an ontologically evil device and in the amazon ecosystem and everything, but it's still kinda shocking to me that when you open a book, it will skip past the dedication, epigraph, and table of contents to put you on the first "real" page

as someone who was carefully (and maybe only half-intentionally) directed away from creative fields as I grew up, it's crazy that we're getting to a point where this applies even to the boring-but-lucrative thing I was ultimately pushed towards instead of video games or writing: software engineering

I think about this a lot — so much so that I recall saying to one Actual Play person who is my age/career stage that we have similar challenge: our successes are not replicable by the route we took, but we ALSO want to help folks figure out new paths.
