“I am aware that, every time I have a conversation with a book, I benefit from someone’s decision against silence.” - Yiyun Li
referring to close readings as headcanon from now on, unless they're new historicism, in which case that's "lore"
"So, then, the duende is a force, not a labour, a struggle, not a thought. I heard an old maestro of the guitar say: ‘The duende is not in the throat: the duende surges up, inside, from the soles of the feet.’
if you’re not gonna get excited about yr own stuff how do you expect others to get excited about WELL I AM EXCITED TO PLAY A SHOW and so here’s another flyer post
going to a submit page, crumpled pages of my latest sunk cost fallacy in hand, like "please sir... validate me."
idk who I ticked off but i've been a walking jinx for a month straight. if you need me i'll be sitting in a small, dark corner inside a salt circle clutching my migraine meds for safety and waiting for whatever it is to have mercy on my (now justifiably) anxious soul.
I love the phrase "writers and poets" because it suggests poets aren't writing but instead doing something far more sinister
NEW BOOK PREORDERS my new collection Laterals is now open for preorders I like to describe these poems as “sports adjacent” — there is sports in every poem but they’re about understanding the self through sports 406press.com/product/late...

I don’t want this point to be lost in the discourse. Going digital-only means inequity for people who cannot afford internet or constantly purchasing new games. Libraries provide opportunities for people to experience games they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford, and that will be lost.
My child loves going to the library and checking out a new video game every week. Going digital only eliminates libraries as a way people can access games.
Good Evening, “video games” was a 45 year sociological study conducted by hardware development industries. We are now complete with our study. Thank you for your time.
Writing in order to survive, surviving in order to write.
felt inspired by @austinkleon.bsky.social's concept of "artistic genealogy" and ended up going down a John Cage rabbit hole this month! abigailoswald.substack.com/p/chains-of-...

A fish is essentially a small smooth man who lives in the sea and wants nothing from us
I meet people. “Oh, you’re the writer?” they ask. “Yes,” I say, always with a smile but shifting my stance because you never know. “What are you working on?” they ask. “An award-losing novel,” I say. They don’t laugh. I don’t laugh. No one laughs. The silence grows teeth. We all turn into cake.
thinking this morning: yes, pursue your dreams, so you can find the adjacent thing that was not the original dream, like the book next to a book on a library shelf.
Need a laugh? Me too. Remember when a goose fucked up Fabio on a rollercoaster? Read my weird little flash. Thanks to @rgvaughan.bsky.social and the @bendinggenres.bsky.social editors for taking my silly mythology seriously... 🪿☀️🎢

"Writing should always be exploratory. There shouldn’t be the assumption that you know ahead of time what you want to express." ~ Marilynne Robinson
I think that believing in someone's book (someone you may never meet in person), designing a beautiful cover for it, paying them for it, then paying for, setting up & standing at tables to gush over them & their book to strangers is one of the most beautiful, punk rock acts.
