the fact that the NBA was forced to investigate and punish its richest owner because of a scandal uncovered by an investigative journalist… shoutout to pablo torre! journalism is so important!!!

Ben Collins@bencollins.bsky.social · last mo.

What Pablo Torre did was ridiculously impressive. Uncovered a conspiracy between rich guys, withstood a propaganda campaign by one of the richest guys in the world with a pretty good reputation, didn't buckle or panic, and just kept reporting. That's some Pulitzerin' right there.

"Eisner said his new bike has helped him to 'feel immersed in the world.' 'You can hear the sounds and smell the smells,' Eisner said. 'Cars are isolating. When you remove the walls and get back into the world, you slow down, you can explore a little more.'" Look at our PCEF dollars work!

🚨PHD economist JC Bradbury of Kennesaw State University studies stadium deals, and says the Moda deal on the table is NOT a market-rate deal, as the mayor and others have said, but rather a total outlier, where the people have to sign the check without knowing what they’re even paying for.

Rita Moore@ritamoore.bsky.social · 2mo ago

A billionaire treats a city with contempt, demanding taxpayers pay for his vanity project. Electeds surrender to the extortion while cutting essential services. Same story everywhere for 30 years. Time for fans to organize. If we're not at the table, we're on the menu. Join the Fan Compact.

Marc Poris@marcporis.bsky.social · 2mo ago

Just signed the Fan Compact. Thanks for this discussion and all the hard work, @ripcitynotripoff.bsky.social. www.ripcitynotripoff.com/compact

To the fans One more thing, and it is the thing I care about most. Throughout this process, the deal’s arithmetic has treated Portland’s fandom as worthless — a given, a rounding error, a thing that will show up and pay regardless. Every number in the term sheet prices the team’s scarcity. Not one prices ours. But an NBA team is only a civic good because a city makes it one. Thirty years of sellouts in a small market. The loudest building in the league, for teams that often didn’t deserve it. Your hours, your money, your best memories — my best memories. That devotion is the asset this entire deal is secured against, and the people who hold it were the only party never represented at the table. So here is my last request, as I step back. Keep loving this team — that was never the question. But remember what you now know. The record of how this was done exists, in public, with page numbers. The next time someone tells Portland the clock has run out and the price is the price — pull up the record, and start the meeting over. And do one thing for the city that gets this next. Somewhere right now — Memphis, Milwaukee, Cleveland, San Antonio, a city that doesn’t know it yet — someone is about to spend their summer the way I spent mine, discovering far too late that the number was settled in a room they were never in. They should not have to start from nothing, the way we did. The Fan Compact is what I wish had existed in February: five rules, written down, that a fan in any market can hand to their council before the clock starts. Owners are organized. Players are organized. We are the only ones who never were — and the only reason any of it is worth anything. == At the bottom is a red button with white text that says SIGN THE FAN COMPACT ->

As a lifetime Blazers fan, I remain confused by the approach to *gestures* all of this. Why wouldn't we want public tax dollars invested in the stadium to bring the most public ROI possible? Why would we expect a public body to start by negotiating against itself? Idk, idgi.

J.C. Bradbury@jcbradbury.com · 2mo ago

One highlight, because few people understand how "relocation" is used for leverage. It's not about extracting a ransom from desperate fans. It creates fear among representatives who know better, and gives them, civic leaders, media members, etc. a pretext to support bad policy.

Koyama Lane told OPB that, through conversations, these lobbyists ‘have made it clear that elected officials will be blamed if the team leaves Portland.’” News coverage circulated in City files, February 2026 · production C452264, p.147 Verified Put that pressure beside the reception where the team introduced councilors to the commissioner, the game tickets and parking passes offered to new members, and a business community that treats this project as the test of whether you are serious about Portland — and you have a vote where conviction and career point in the same direction for almost everyone. Which is exactly why the loudest argument for this deal is the one about losing the team. It is not primarily aimed at the public. It is aimed at the people casting the votes, and it works, because it converts a hard question about price into an easy question about loyalty. I believe several councilors know this deal is bad and will vote for it anyway — not because anyone bought them, but because the structure charges them personally for being right and pays them for going along. That is a design flaw in the room, and the fix is structural, not moral: make the information a precondition, and a councilor who asks for it is following the rules instead of risking a franchise.

This is my final word on the Moda Center saga. This Wednesday, the vote to spend $1.1B of taxpayer funds is going to pass. If you think you ever had a say in the matter, you were lied to. Everyone got what they wanted in the end. Everyone but you. www.ripcitynotripoff.com/everyone-but...

Everyone But You: how Portland promised $573 million in rooms the public never entered

The league was in the room. The team was in the room. Three governments were in the room. 8,000 pages of the City's own records show who wasn't — and what it cost.

Correction: the City Council moved toward approving a term sheet that commits nearly $400M in city funds, $120M of which is unfunded and $275M has no apparent justification. Had my amendment passed we could have at least found the $120M. Ah well, nevertheless.

Willamette Week@wweek.com · 2mo ago

The Portland City Council on Thursday evening moved toward approving a non-binding term sheet for the Moda Center renovation that would propose the city contribute $120 million for renovation costs in exchange for a lease keeping the Trail Blazers in town for at least 20 years.

Did some modeling at the dais to show you what would happens if we pass my amendment: we’d generate free cash flow from the current encumbrances of Moda fees net of debt service on a $120MM bond issuance. No PCEF $, no general fund obligation and reduced public contribution by 2/3rds

Data table that shows revenues earned from Moda activities and cash flow at different interest rates net of debt service for a $120 m bond
Mitch Green@councilorgreen.bsky.social · 2mo ago

We’re hearing testimony on the Moda term sheet today. I have filed an amendment that seeks to do two broad things: 1. empower the Joint Authority to limit expenditure public funds in the public interest with transparency and accountability 2. Reduce City’s commitment from $400M -> $120MM

WOAH. Blazers leaked emails show they refused to respond to city emails asking basic questions, weeks before any “first-class” claim was mentioned, contradicting Dewayne Hankins claim that that claim “chilled negotiations” They were not negotiating in good faith since the beginning.
