Cutting Medicare Part D subsidies isn’t “fiscal discipline.” It’s a prescription for higher drug costs, more untreated illness, and greater long‑term healthcare spending. Seniors deserve stability, not surprise hikes in essential medication costs.

And I sincerely believe that candidates should make a point of saying Republicans want to spend all their time looking in your daughter's underpants and giving tax breaks to billionaires instead of making sure families can eat and afford a place to live.

I often get asked why governments continue to fund sports venues/events after decades of research shows they're not worth it. Well, here's the answer: the local insiders who run our cities love the perks that come with sports boosterism. Taxpayers are really subsidizing their cocktail parties.

Such events are, of course, AMAZING for interested parties and stakeholders. They likewise do wonders for the social lives, status, and fundraising of politicians who back the events. But the Olympics, World Cup, Super Bowls, All-Star Games, F1 races, etc, etc do nothing for overall local economies.

Listing alternatives gives reporters something to investigate. When they call sources in those cities, they'll find there is no interest. The Trail Blazers don't want that to happen, so they're counting on the imaginations of reporters to fill in the blanks. Don't help them.

The reason the Portland Trail Blazers are not listing potential relocation cities is because those options don't exist. Until that happens, please stop reporting on this like it's something that's likely to happen. I don't see any realistic alternate locations.

Look, I get that a lot of folks are mad about Portland's economic climate. But, the solution isn't to pass an arena subsidy project, which are notoriously bad public investments. Focus on fixing the perceived existing problems directly, don't compound your mistakes.

How will the average Portland citizen be improved by spending $600 million to upgrade Moda? It's revealing how not even the deal's supporters try to make this case. Just some vague rationalizations about keeping a team that has nowhere better to go.

Editorial: Stay on track, Portland, and show the Trail Blazers a partnership worth keeping

As the clock ticks toward a deadline for getting a Moda Center deal done, Portland city councilors should focus on what they control — finalizing a framework to negotiate a new long-term lease and sho...

The GOP wants to repeal no-fault divorce & women's right to vote so that violent misogynists like Max Miller can un-person us fully: they want to own women, as rape toys & punching bags. We're the majority of the population. We already have fewer rights to bodily protection than corpses & animals.
