The Supreme Court today addressed one of the most pressing threats to the nation today: banning this high school sophomore from playing school sports with her friends 🫡🫠🙃

Healthcare has to be one of the 2 most important planks to run on in 2028. It has to be Improved Medicare For All or bust. Single payer that includes vision, dental, and mental health for ALL. Go to war with the insurance companies. Tie healthcare to everything because it is tied to everything.

I know this is not the biggest concern going these days, but it stresses me out that basically every artist/writer/critic is now expected to create their own tiny empire instead of getting paid by any existing entity to perform a job they've worked to get good at!!!!

Did you know I have a silly sexy murder mystery coming out on August 11? It's got real crossing guard drama, fake Chicago neighborhoods, awkward bisexual encounters, & 3 giant poodles. Plus murder. Preorder Don't Cross Mo Ellery (birdiehorne.com)! And follow us on Tiktok - birdiehornebooks!

At the airport nonconsensually listening to business guy talk loudly on the phone behind me and it's all "I just assumed Doogie would be the easy plug n play for the TTD commission but Tond was on the hook with the Florglies merger so the whole thing was a no-go"

I understand those suggesting small press or self-pub as a solution, but they only solve getting the book out there—they almost never solve enough sales to (partly) live off of & you also won’t get the attention you get w/a traditional publisher; even critical darlings need a bit of a boost

was just reading an interview with a writer who said, in essence, that they have a 2nd book idea but don't know if they'll write it bc they don't know if they'll make any money on it. and this made me blisteringly sad. everyone needs to eat & pay rent but I want to read the books ppl WANT to write!

A week or so ago, I was looking for a couple books by an author from 10 and 15 years ago and my library didn't have them. I requested them via a library form. Today I got a notification in Libby that they purchased both titles. Asking your library for writers' books is an amazing way to support us.

Finally, Doc Brown will be able to fuel his Time Machine without having to work with terrorists. This is the future we were promised.

U.S. Seeks to Give Weapons-Grade Plutonium to Start-Ups for Fuel www.nytimes.com/2026/05/26/c... Companies say it’s a better way to dispose of the Cold War-era material — and fix a shortage of nuclear fuel. But the plan has also faced criticism from nonproliferation experts.

I'll be in conversation with @edenrobins.bsky.social, and if you haven't read her book yet it's written all in obituaries and was a finalist for the LeGuin. I cannot wait for this!

One of the funniest things to me about living in this small town is that when the cops catch someone with drugs or guns or both, they make a little photo tableau of their haul - a still-life, if you will - and post it to their Facebook page.

A Very 21st Century Tale of Insomnia: waking up at 3am to the whirring of your robot vacuum, and then staying up with anxiety that your town could turn an empty mall into a data center
