Today's reminder that the current genAI boom is powered by GPUs manufactured with the mineral coltan (and other rare earths, and cobalt) mined through the labor of enslaved children in Congo, and the US and UAE fund the paramilitaries which protect those mines and keep those children enslaved.

The Trump administration has shown they are willing to deport people to their deaths by systematically attacking pathways to seek protection. People seeking asylum contribute to our communities and economy. Turning our backs on them is wrong and dangerous.

Asylum-seekers and kids in court are Trump’s next deportation target

This is the moment for politicians to defend asylum and finally engage with policies that create a safe and humane border arrivals system.

Making a certain kind of explicitly right-wing Jewish Studies a carveout to the general assault on the humanities is not ultimately good for Jews or Jewish Studies as an academic discipline. It makes us court Jews, only able to study and teach at the whims of the rulers, and easy scapegoats.

The diarrhea lettuce company, Taylor Farms, uses slave labor contracted from the Arizona Dept. of Corrections. The backbreaking labor is often performed by imprisoned Mexican nationals who would be otherwise ineligble to work in the US. They are paid $1.50 an hour.

The Diarrhea Lettuce Company Has Been Linked to Forced Labor

The lettuce-producing Taylor Farms was linked to the widespread use of prison labor before its involvement in a cyclospora outbreak.

🧵 Who's profiting from the imprisonment of children at the Dilley ICE Camp? #1 is of course CoreCivic, which expects to generate $180M in revenue annually running the facility. 1/4

112 children are imprisoned at Dilley. The youngest child imprisoned at Dilley is 2 months old. None have committed any crime. Private investors make money for each new child taken into Dilley. We need to #ShutDownDilley and end family detention.

Trump's illegal war with Iran continues. A war launched on a whim. A war in violation of the US Constitution, the UN Charter, the War Powers Resolution, and the US Congress's recently reaffirmed will.

U.S. forces began launching strikes against Iran at 8 p.m. ET today. The strikes are a powerful response to yesterday's attempted Iranian attacks on U.S. forces based in the Middle East.

🧵🧵There are a bunch of lessons from India’s Cockroach Janata protest movement, which in a matter of weeks brought an increasingly authoritarian prime minister to heel and achieved real gains from a govt that’s been largely immune to forces of accountability. Here are a few off the top of my head🧵
