Ever looked at a complex animation and thought, "There is no way I can build that"? 🤯 With any new animation in #JetpackCompose, I ask myself these three questions: 1️⃣ WHAT properties are being changed in this? 2️⃣ WHEN does it animate? 3️⃣ HOW should it animate? youtu.be/HNSKJIQtb4c?...
For those who have forgotten the past 40 years: Tax cuts for the rich ...don’t trickle down Boosting military spending ...doesn’t bring peace Slashing regulations ...doesn’t create jobs Folks, we’ve seen this all before.
After 2.5y of development, github.com/saket/teleph... is nearing ~600 screenshot tests that verify all possible combinations of usages. It's one of the most thoroughly tested UI libraries you'll find for Android. Shout out to my friends at emulator.wtf without whom this wasn't possible!

So where is the accountability for the execs who've been pushing AI for two years, only to just now discover the world's most obvious rug pull? Everyone on the ground saw this coming. Will a single exec in any company pay a price for the short-sightedness?
Not sure why some people are so shocked over Lupita Nyong'o's casting in 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘖𝘥𝘺𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘺. Christopher Nolan is known for his attention to detail, and since the source material describes Helen of Troy as the most beautiful woman in the world, he cast the most beautiful woman in the world.
Android is now Compose-first: developer.android.com/develop/ui/c... It was years in the making, and I'm happy to see it's finally here!

💠 Haze 2.0-alpha01 is out! This is a big release, splitting Haze up into layers, with the goal of enabling pluggable visual effects. Let me know what you think! chrisbanes.me/posts/haze-2...
Haze 2.0: A Pluggable Visual Effects Engine
Haze 2.0-alpha01 turns blur into a pluggable effect, splitting it into a separate module and opening the door to custom visual effects built on top of a shared rendering infrastructure.

Lay offs are being handed out like souvenirs and it seems it's my turn now. My employer closed the entire German office and a ton of talented engineers including myself were laid off 👋🏾. If you know of anyone in the market for an extremely talented Mobile IC (or EM), send them my way! ❤️
Google's plan to block unverified apps is a 'rug pull' on the 3 billion people who chose Android for its openness. Don't let them turn your phone into a walled garden. @keepandroidopen.bsky.social #KeepAndroidOpen keepandroidopen.org
Keep Android Open
Your phone is about to stop being yours. In September 2026, Google will block every Android app whose developer hasn't registered with them.

One underrated improvement Metro brings is its easy setup. No more configuring KAPT, runtime modules, keeping versions in sync, etc. You apply the Gradle plugin, setup a tiny graph and the rest is driven through constructor injection, @ContributesBinding and its other features. This was all I needed
I turned the essay into a blog post: "No. You can't tell it was written by AI" segunfamisa.com/posts/no-you...

Strong opinions about AI "tells"

Whew. I just typed a 450-word essay on my phone, in reply to someone saying they're adding "this resonates" to their list of "LLM tells"
At least 5 times everyday it surprises me that "just copy the implementation and tweak it for your user case" is a feature of jetpack compose and not a bug 😔
📣 The testing documentation has received a major update! Opinionated testing strategies, screenshot testing, performance tests, flakiness, Robolectric and large screens! I published a summary here -> medium.com/androiddevel...

idk how long Berlin will keep allowing this wild NYE fireworks behaviour. it's horrible
Odd how useless TVs have become in most hotels. You have a nice and big screen that has a few TV channels - which I never want to watch. And yet no streaming apps (that I’d use). Screen mirroring from iPhone doesn’t work (that I’d also use). Wonder when this will change.

It’s this kind of garbage that makes me feel that setting up @snappautomotive.snapp.social was the right thing to do. Now all we need is for manufacturers to have the courage to engage with smaller companies and not sit in the loop of existing processes that ships this junk to customers.
Fellow Berliners, have you ever tried the DHL sex position? You stay in all day and nobody comes.
