not that this all needs to be dragged out for yet another day, but Elena’s piece is an incredibly incisive defence of film criticism as a practice

I found lots of interesting ideas/ views in this Re: EW and other Classicists often high* handed views on #TheOdyssey and film in general . A lot of the recent comments smack of good old fashioned cultural snobbery tbh. *High table

Something I like about @elazic.bsky.social's careful read here is that it points out a fatal flaw with a lot of pieces of writing that pass for "reviews" (even from critics!) because they talk about a movie: saying "this is bad!" as if it's self-evident, rather than arguing for *why* it is bad.
